So, i have a question regarding the burn phase. Every guide i’ve found tells me to cast Radiant spark, followed by some Arcane blasts, Arcane surge and Arcane barrage. Then, once the damage amplifying effect from Radiant spark has work off, i’m supposed to cast Touch of the magi.
My question is, why would i not want to cast Touch of the magi on the target earlier? It seems most logical to me to cast Touch of the magi just before Arcane surge, not after it.
Usually you cast TotM before your barrage hits the target so that you will have 4 arcane charges twice and the damage from your barrage will be added to the accumulated TotM damage.
Yh its the only way to have a radiant spark buffed barrage inside TotM, Arcane Surge and RoP and not have to spend time building back up charges in the burst window.
You want to kickstart the TotM damage by having a maxed arcane barrage in it. Also, you want to maximize the dmg output inside TotM.
Scenario:
TotM → RS → AB x4 → ABa
Bad, because of several reasons. You wasted time you could do damage while TotM is active, because RS does do some damage, but AB’s dmg is higher. So the cast time of RS inside TotM is lost time that you could have spent casting AB/AM. It’s also bad, because you might still have TotM time left when you hit 40% on your RS and then cast ABa, but ABa makes you loose your arcane charges. So, all spells that you can still fit inside TotM loose damage. Next thing is that you waste the 4 Arcane Charges gained from TotM by doing this, because you probably already have 4 charges when casting TotM.
RS → AB x3 → AS → TotM into ABa is much better because
a. You have a fully buffed ABa inside the TotM window
b. You basically get this for free without loosing any time inside TotM for other spells
c. You make the most use of the 4 Arcane Charges gained by TotM
Think about it this way: TotM is your most important CD and you want to do maximum damage in those 10s. Casting anything that does low or no damage or resets your arcane charges in this 10s window is a huge DPS loss.
Additionally, a tip that helped me a lot: If you have to move during an encounter while you are in the build up (RS) phase before TotM: Watch your RS closely. The window after the first spell hit after RS has been applied is really tight. You are better off skipping an AB and only getting a 30% or even 20% boosted ABa into TotM than letting RS fade completely. Same goes for RoP. If you had to move out of your RoP during RS build up and you need to decide between moving back into your RoP OR casting the 4th AB, rather move back into RoP and only do a 30% ABa into TotM than stay out of your RoP and get the additional 10% from RS.
To simple put, you can waste weeks or month of your live in gear grind, but in the raid - the one who gets PI - the one who will do more dps. So beg for PI and you will be ok.
