Please increase nameplate distance (20yards is way to short)

As a ranged in retail im playing without a target frame since forever, i rely on nameplates to play.

The nameplate limitation to 20 yards in classic makes it super anoying to play ranged. Please increase it to 41y (TBC) or 60y (retail).

/console nameplateMaxDistance 41
if that dosnt work
/script SetCVar(“nameplateMaxDistance”, 41)

Ty for your answer but there is a client limitation to 20yards in wow classic.

The game doesnt allow you to chance the nameplate distance, not with console commands and also not with addons (plater, elvui)… :frowning:

this does nrot work in classic era servers, its hard capped by blizzard.

Really want this change as well. Just made a post about this right now without realizing this one existed.

Then they changed it sometime after BWL came out in classic, tried it before that and one of those 2 worked back then

If it’s hard capped don’t you think they have done it on purpose?

ofc it was on purpose, to replicate vanilla, and in vanilla it was done by technical limitations of the client and the pc’s of 2004.

Yes please. It is ridiculous that the distance is set at arbitrary 20 yards. This is no longer Vanilla Classic, with the added abilities and revamped dungeons there is no pretense at all that we are playing the game as it was. This needlessly gimps some classes (especially those with 41 range) while almost not affectimg melees at all.

true, and its just feels bad to not be able to see and understand the enemies at distance

After playing the game for a while you get a sixth sense as to how far something is from you. Don’t worry you will get it too eventually.

And that sixth sense is of no use to you if you stand 41 yards from a pulled mob pack in a dungeon and need to pick out the one that you need to dps down or to switch target to the one that needs interrupt or renew of cc. This artificial distance limit makes it so my real cast range is always 20 yards in group play, not 36 or 41, rendering any talents that improve it near pointless.
Yes we all play around it in variety of ways, but why should we? What purpose does the limit serve other than to make gameplay worse for classes that have over 20y range on most of their abilities? What is your argument for keeping the limit other than “I learned to deal with it”?

Yes. 10chars.

Yes, agreed. Nameplates should be increased to 41y.
That said, they may want to prevent us from seeing mobs through the walls that way, so I suggest they only show the nameplates of creatures you are in combat with, but still 41y.

Do you know what I do in that case? Click on it and wait until my icon isn’t red.

Already covered that.
Also that doesn’t even cover the problem at all you silly person. You have 4 mobs stacked on top of one another, one needs resheep, one needs counterspell, one needs fireball to the face. How do you target the one you need at 41 range? Tab target I guess, but what if there’s 8 of them, what if theres 15 small ones? What if the CS need to go NOW, not when you tab target to it in 3 sec.

You can’t do it, why complain when it’s an obvious conscious choice by Blizzard? Besides SoD isn’t out yet so we don’t know exactly what’s happening with the distances.

Yes it was an obvious choice in WoW Classic to maintain it as close as possible to Vanilla gameplay, warts and all. This thread is about why it shouldn’t be in SoD, do try to keep up.

I hear alot of negative opinions on the current limit… But having this change to 41 yards would be superiorly overpowered in the aspect of PvP…
Ranged characters already got the superior advantage over melee characters, seeing you approach through a hill so you can be 100% safe all of the time would be so absurdly powerful especially now that we get a PvP-event-zone in Ashenvale.

Very much a needed change.
Nameplates should at the very least be visible 5y earlier than your spell-ranges

After playing my hunter to level 25 i can say that the 20yards nameplates are driving me crazy. This really kills the fun for me.
