Please Blizzard I beg you let us get old pvp elite sets again, it can be behind high rating barriers or whatever you want but we should be at least able to get them by playing well in PvP, it would even add more reasons for people to actually play PvP in the first place.
It is low effort high rewards for you, all you need is to make those sets available again behind achievements.
I remember having had this discussion countless times on the Arena forum years and years ago. And the conclusion was always the same. The Arena community did not want to give up the exclusivity and prestige associated with the rewards they had previously obtained, so they were always fiercely against the idea of bringing back old Elite PvP sets or Gladiator mounts or titles or anything else. In short; they were as conservative as they could be with regards to changes to the reward scheme in PvP.
And for better or worse, Blizzard have largely heeded the feedback of the PvPers with regards to PvP. I remember Blizzard proposing to make Gladiator mounts account-wide like all other mounts, and getting a resounding NO! in return from the Arena community, and then dutifully heeding that feedback.
Nowadays that same PvP and Arena community is in ruin, because more than a decade of conservative and stubborn design stagnation will do that to a game mode, so perhaps itâs a bit easier now to levy the argument that the reward structure for PvP ought to see some changes, for example with regards to old Elite PvP sets.
Personally Iâve always felt it was ridiculous that Blizzard implements sets, mounts, and titles for PvP, hands them out to a select few players, and then promptly deletes them from the game so no one else can ever have them. Itâs an absolutely nonsensical approach to game design, and I think a large reason why PvP has never really equaled PvE in terms of player attraction â there are hardly any rewards to be had from it when 90% of the stuff gets deleted after each Season!
Iâm not sure whatâs prestigous about the elite sets. Theyâre easy to get now that solo shuffle is in the game and you donât have to look for people in LFG, who usually just play until first loss and then left.
When in pvp remain only community managers then maybe wake up. Actually they work pretty hard to frustrate all healers⌠Give them some time, after they increase que time for dps to 2hours+ then quickly solve your problem with strict NO.
Just give us an Elite Token for reaching 1800 rating, allowing us to redeem either that seasonâs Elite Appearance or sacrifice it (if we donât like it, for example) to claim an older Elite set instead.
They can keep Gladiator mounts and illusions locked to their respective seasons, but Elite Sets should still be obtainable.
I couldnât play during Legion due to real-life commitments, but hitting 2000 now is fairly trivial with SS and BGB â so why should I be âpenalisedâ for not playing 10 years ago? And why is someone who achieved 2000 10 years ago so upset at the idea of others having access now?
Why would anyone want to make them readily available when elite sets back in the old days was 2.1k, and a lot harder to get. If you put them into the game now, they would would be easy to get. Thus, losing prestige. I donât understand how this is even an argument. It simply is a fact.
It is the same problem with challenge mode rewards from MoP and WoD, why not just put it back now and be like âGet 3500 mythic+ score this seasonâ and then you actually get to pick 1 or 2 or 3 items and it goes on, it makes people thrive for an actual goal.
Those are just examples. Those things and the elite pvp sets have been the most beautiful designs ever added to the game and we are forced to admire people who got it fairly easily back then, because letâs be real, those challenge runs were vastly boosted and even if not, the difficulty of the dungeons was clearly not the one we have today.
I would prefer a thousand time more for it to be obtainable again, even if itâs challenging, rather than unobatainable and just received by people because they âplayed back thenâ.
Itâs funny how Mythic Raid mounts go from guaranteed drop when itâs current season to a 1% drop after⌠yet Elite PvP gear isnât attainable anymore when itâs no longer current season.
One thing I hate is how hard it is to get the full mythic set compared to elite set in their current seasons. Elite set is faceroll compared to getting the full mythic set. I had the elite set this season before first weekend for the season.
I just about managed to get the full mythic set for season 1 for my priest towards the end of it, I had the elite set for quite a long time by then.
Season 2 & 4 in DF I never got any boots to drop for my priest that would grant me the mythic set if used in the catalyst. Not during 2 seasons. So Iâm missing the boots for the full set, lol.
The link you are making is tenuous at best. People arenât pvping because its not fun. Yes thats a result of many design choices that pushed them down that road. Is the ability to dress up (or not) in a 15 year old mog one of those? Questionable.
Itâs certainly works when youâre pushing a specific narrative though.
I actually think itâd make for more engagement with PvP if it were possible to acquire more of the older sets and mounts.
The exclusivity period for bragging rights can still exist for a time, perhaps for the duration of a single expansionâŚand then it can simply be removed in favour of the next new thing to chase.
First of all, why do you have to be snide in your replies Dejarous? Itâs not the first time, and I donât understand it. Your post is otherwise intriguing and inviting for debate, but you choose to poison the well. Why? Do you want respectful discussion on the topic or are you looking for a fist-fight?
Iâll reply as if I hadnât read the above.
Sure, Iâm taking liberty to broaden my criticism of the PvP design over the years beyond the topic of discussion, but thatâs because the design pertaining to the reward structure in PvP feels symptomatic of the general PvP design and its shortcomings â namely that it has been very conservative since its inception to the point of having stagnated in development.
Iâm not sure if players donât PvP because itâs not fun. Players often do lots of things in WoW that arenât fun. If anything, players often seem more driven by reward than by fun when it comes to doing anything in WoW.
Iâve always held the opinion that PvP has lacked rewards, and that outright removing most of the ones that exist by the end of a Season, is stupid. And that having a greater abundance of rewards that were more accessible to players in general, would go a long way to create more interest in PvP (even if for reasons of vanity).
And I suppose you can say (which wouldnât be entirely untrue) that lambasting Blizzardâs PvP design because PvP is now in ruins, is also a way of vindicating my own argued opinion on PvP over the past many years. What can I say? I am but a selfish and vain poster.
It wasnât intentionally snide but people tend to have a conclusion in mind and pidgeonhole the facts to suit it. It just felt to me like this was another one of these cases.
Heâs always been the same with his posts. I assume he just gets irritated very easily by anything that isnât sharing his PoV. Definitely a jaded person.
Itâs an absolute no brainer in terms of revitalizing an interest in PvP, a mode that has largely been demoted to mini-game status in WoW at this point.
