I love how ppl that not grinded scarab lord in SoD are so devaluating the merit, beside reputation grind was as well the Nightmare dragons tag wars…no one wanted to share the kills , and the quest items drop was really low beside huge concurrence…and to clarify the quest items are not shared…MC glasses drop was low as well…so from 100 potential Scarab lords maybe 20 got all the items in time.
Ofc it is. As i wrote above its not that much stuff that has to be changed overall. Just some niche trinkets that could be too op for Raids/PVP in MoP but the DPS increase from Classic to SoD items is pretty much irrelevant ‘‘if’’ were talking about MoP transfers.
Classic Anniversary ofc is a no-go. They could do it for TBC but they still would have to nerf everything from SE, Naxx-Bonis, AQ40 Bonis.
And like if you transfer over to anywhere you would loose your Runes/Changed Talents etc… automatically because its not existent in the Version you transfered to.
Im currently playing SoD on every class and if Runes, Talenttree’s, Trinket/Setbonis are removed the difference isnt that much anymore for TBC and especially MoP irrelevant.
But sure we dont know if they will do it…maybe once they want to delete SoD servers because theyre dead
in phase 8 alone they added 568 items to the game.
now add everything they added to the game in prior phases.
that’s like 5000 items they’d have to address before even thinking about opening up transfers.
and again, what are they supposed to do about items that don’t exist in vanilla?
such as warlock/shaman/rogue tank items and mage healer items?
do they just randomly convert my tank tier gear into … oh wait, tier 3.5 doesn’t exist on anniversary… darn, another unfortunate hurdle…
like where do they even begin to address this mess?
its easy to suggest it like “oh that’s ez, just do A and B then C will be restored perfectly” but as is obvious, that is not really the case.
its quite a complicated and difficult task because they’d basically have to revert every single thing they ever changed in SOD by hand, without affecting the players negatively (deleting my full t3.5 tank set, for example).
im honestly curious what the actual process of doing that is. because in my head its something like:
copy from SoD > paste into (for example) MoP gamefiles > remove all stats/bonuses > check optics/effect > make available ingame.
Im not sure just assuming but i cant imagine that being such a big deal tbh. considering they have to balance nothing most ppl want this for the optics not the ‘‘stats’’. Like adding an item that already exists cant be that hard right ? because essentially theyre doing that with every single ‘‘classic’’ expansion (like mop rn but with 10times the amount of items) and i assume the hard part is getting the items onto their original stats/bonuses etc…not the bare implementation of the style of it?
As said i have no clue and i honestly dont really share the opinion of adding SoD characters to anniversary is the right choice. But i think some cosmetics for MoP wouldnt hurt anyone unless some guys that feel special about their scarab lord mount in the 2nd iteration of WoW (kekw)
And btw for clarification i dont think they should do this stuff right now. Believe it or not there are still a lot of players playing SOD.
It would for sure be a mistake right now it would kill the servers quite instantly. But once the numbers are down i think they should consider letting people transfer specially before they ‘‘close’’ the servers in the future.
Im still able to do Naxx HM4 pugs (with 1-2 HR) randomly without pre-sign up just out of tradechat. That might be a dumb way to come to that conclusion i know but getting randomly up to 35ppl for your ‘‘outdated’’ content thing atleast says something about the server population. Also people are still farming their BiS stuff (from naxx)
Same goes for SE pugs. Idk about any other realms but mine seems healthy. i think people are overreacting on that end due to their guild losing members (which just happens naturally after such a announcement really).
The game is not dead at all, but it will at some point and once were there they should do something transfer-wise i believe
“Guild” you mean Coalition, as his guild was in a several guild coalition…
It is different, which is why you don´t get the same offerings, you get the same seasonal server to a permanent one however.
SOM had no option for a permanent server, thats the difference, that you still don´t understand.
“Server migration is the process of moving large amounts of critical information from one server to another, all while making sure that the new server is properly configured to host this new information.”
No i think you need to Peppi, cause publicly announcing your clown identity is comedic.
Unless you already have a dedicated framework in place to do this, this is NOT at all how you convert anything in a game. It is nearly always done by hand…
It is a big enough deal cause it is a ton of hours wasted that goes against their philosophies and was never promised so why would they.
No one cares that they can get a char into mop and a special SOD cosmetic as well. Literally no one has an issue with that.
Any modified item/talent/spell in SoD is functionally a new entity. Most of the gear you get from BFD onwards from dungeons and raids is under that category. They’d need to basically throw in a database during the conversion process to change everything back to the vanilla state and then delete items that were entirely new.
Yeah i mean i really like the way you guys describe it as way harder than i do but apparently were all just assuming because no one actually said how its done :S
There is not really anything to understand there. The only reason why SOM didnt have the option for a permanent server is because they didnt do one and thats it ? They could have, but they didnt and thats really all there is to it. Let me assume a little bit. I think they didnt do it because they knew it will die quite fast after its announcement but thats just a guess
What do you think happens when you try to paste code into a game when that code doesn’t exist? Don’t you remember the old pokemon games how they’d glitch out with missingno and occasionally wreck your entire game?
And no, it isn’t Bmwaver’s job to tell you how to do something that YOU want to do. Coming up with a solution and a method to impliment such solution is entirely on you. It is the prosecutions job to prove guilt, not the defendants to prove innocense.
Bloody hell. I’ve been gone for two weeks and you idiots are still at it.
MoP will never get as much attention as SoD. SoD was one of the best works of blizz, it could be developed more, more innovations could be added. Instead of developing more, blizz focused on different investments… SoD should continue to be developed and renewed, because retail and later classic add-ons did not and will not give the pleasure and happiness that SoD did. SoD should continue to be developed…!
