Every time a new patch comes out I am less playing wow. I had like Month of just not playing by now. I skipped half of shadowland and dragonflight.
And it all comes down to one simple feeling.
I have done 1000 things in the past and they are all irrelevant and if I dont play now its irrelevant as well since if I play in 3 month I get in 3 days what other players in the expansion had to play for 3 month.
This makes me have a loop were I am just not playing anymore. Everything feels irrelevant, I have to redo everything I did a hundred times since my real big characters are gone forever. I have to redo mayor progressions like questing zones complete or grinding a rep. (it cant be that hard to make all reps account wide except a few who are quest relevant like those centaurs in desolace.)
There are so many hoops I have to jump threw again so my character feels āon the same levelā again if I just want him to look different (or I have to pay even more money.)
But I dont want to criticise without giving a way out. There are actually 2 ways:
Remove old content. No one plays it except for completionists. And at this point it takes like hundreds of hours to even get to the level a character is at that was created in lets say wrath. it would instantly remove the feeling of āI am never able to reach this.ā and would make advancing in the game more realistic. There are many isolated areas and whole expansions that have no worth outside of mounts (witch we have far to many) and pets (we are at what? 10k pets?)
Add a currency that makes it able to buy gear and resources for the CURRENT content by doing quests and downscaled dungeons of the past. When it comes to quests its irrelevant that you are overpowered since even when you were on the same level as the quests you would nearly one-shot anything. Most time on those quests is rp and traveling anyways and always was.
((little sidenote. WoW is the only game that does barely remove content. Every other mmo or even normal game removes content so that the game feels smaller and more manageable again. For some reason wow does not want to do that even so the content is not played by 99% of the playerbase))
Wow works on the basis of seasons. Some players donāt like the treadmill but others like myself find it gives us a reason to play each season. They are unlikely to award good gear for old content. They want you to take part in the latest patch, raid, dungeons, pvp season etc.
They do not remove old content so that it is there for everyone to enjoy. I think removing it would be a mistake. If you donāt like old content, you can simply ignore it without taking it from people that do enjoy it.
I donāt actually know another MMO that removes content.
Actually not true. They removed a ton of content over the years, not raids and dungeons tho. And they regularly adjust and rework old content even so its not part of the newest expansion. AND they have a currency that is used in the newest content by doing old content.
WoW only does that if they want to reuse a dungeon for the expansion.
So saying its a lie is just attacking me, nice one.
not raids and dungeons and msq and fate and side quests and⦠they donāt remove anything that wow doesnāt too, your point doesnāt make sense.
They tune numbers and block most of your spells under specific level, not much of a commendation, most of the non endgame content still becomes cakewalk, not much difference from timewalking or grinding anima
But isnāt a mmo supposed to be their for the long run? So that what you do is relevant further down the road?
Since everything is on a by patch basis why even keep up pretending to be an MMO?
Also there is no TIME to enjoy it. WoW gets more and more into a āplay as much as you want per day and you still arenāt finishedā State. So then old content is just their to āmockā you that you didnāt finish it.
It is all there for the long term, if you removed it, it wouldnāt be there. I can go and do any old content I like.
So in my case I generally do what is current first and foremost and then later in the season Iām have more time to visit old content to gather transmog, mounts, pets, achievements, toys etc.
I got the impression he was more referring to systems rather than content. Most of those MMOās that pulled out ādislikedā systems are F2P anyway.
They actually do redesign whole dungeons with new bosses and new loot as well as change up parts of the msq or redo them. They know people will come to the point where the game needs to adjust.
Also ff14 for example has a simple reason why old content is not irrelevant. You spend FAR more time in old content. You dont go 1-50 in one day. Each expansion takes its time to show you the parts of the game that were added and the story. Witch in return makes those parts more meaningful and less irrelevant over time. Not to mention that you can experience the whole game on a single character unlike in wow were you have to redo nearly everything if you just wanna play another class.
Honestly you are kind of right. You did pay for it and alot if you been around that long. Maybe one of the arguments that speak the loudest against my first idea.
Unlike some that just hate on me because I openly speak about the reason why I dont play wow anymore.
People āhateā on you because what makes you stop playing, keeps other people playing so. Remove old content and you āmay startā playing while some others will stop.
So we are back to square one. Same theatrical play, only different actorsā¦
Canāt please them all.
Kind of get that one.
Its just confusing that an mmo is on a per patch basis with all its content.
I makes no sense throwing away so much work that has been put into the game.
WoW has so much content so many people will never see or only in a very mixed up form.
It also makes no sense from a development standpoint to not use old content again.
which one was redesigned lmao, i played nidhogg bossfight when stormblood was current expansion, and then replayed it 2 years ago, same boss fight mechanic wise, or are you talking about realms reborn?
because there are roulette that makes you play all old content, which is basically a boring mashbutton chore, by wow standards for sure, but yeah itās their way to keep msq relevant, it will be still much harder to find people for dungeons that arenāt msq, and you still need to wait for 40 minutes for something like a nidhogg fight, or hell i remember waiting long time for hades fight which was weird to me considering that it was middle of endwalker.
Yeah donāt try to gaslight me, there are certainly talks in community about old zones besides limsa and current content being empty, itās again msqās merit to show you every part of the world, not āeffortsā to keep content relevant via reworks or some bullcrap like that, square enix arenāt interested in investing ātoo muchā in ffxiv for sure.
No. Youāre not forced to do it, you literally got the choice of where you want to level, so why even suggest it other than āyou donāt care for itāā¦?
But i will also never be able to ābe finishedā with any char. For example i for a fact know my warrior (who has like 50 reps full or something) did do EVERY QUEST in kingdoms and kalimdor once and a few month back i found out they are all unfinished again. Something must have happend between realm transfers and addons that did reset all my quests. For example i can redo the draenor intro even so i have a high end garrison.
And the same is true for every class you want to try out. If a quest is not finished you are not done with the quest. So having to redo all quests again every time your favorite class becomes to bad to play propper or was redesigned and you dont like the way it plays anymore is kind of meh
Sounds like it. Maybe talk to support about this I donāt know if they can help with that.
Well thats how RPGs work tho.
If you start a fresh char your start fresh ofcourse that char has done nothing cause he is new to the world. Maybe ff is more a game for you I heard you can be all classes or jobs how they call it on the same char
