Plight of the demon hunter

DH gets a bit of hate from the PVP community and I understand why that is, 100% dodge blade dance is bad design and annoying to play against, leech that allows DH to face tank is obnoxious and then you have the ridiculously simple single target rotation.

Many people who enjoy playing the class want a more sophisticated rotation (for DH) that doesn’t resemble what a typical level 20 class has.

The above thread provides good feedback for what is wrong with DH.

With regards to the nerfs to DH survivability going into shadowlands I 100% agree, the only thing I don’t understand is why they nerfed the talents on the same row as soul rending, in BFA soul rending is basically a default pick and the same will be true for shadowlands (So it makes no sense to me that they nerfed those talents when they are relatively already inferior to soul rending).

Personally I’d like to see them do away with the leech and give us some kind of active heal instead, the current design forces you into a demonic build and while I personally don’t dislike the demo build I’d rather not be forced into a cookie cutter build for survivability.

I honestly dont know what people like Haugs expect. Blizzard stated from hour one with the DH showcase that they wanted the class to be simple and efficient to play.

Im honestly glad that that is the way it its tbh, the days where I want to tryhard interesting and hard to play specs like MM in Cata are just way over considering how downhill each Expansion has went after MoP, and now putting so much hours and effort into the Game just to get steamrolled by corruption or oneshot PvE trinkets like on Beta is just not worth it anymore.

The biggest problem with Soul Rending is that they absolutely ruined our talent trees going from Legion into BfA. Fel Barrage for no reason got a horrible rework, making it only useful against 3 target cleave in Arena, Bloodlet and Chaos Blades got completly pruned and Momentum even combined with old VR talent is still not a spot that deserves a 110 row.

In Legion we only had to play Demonic + Soul Rending against classes that had sustained damage like spriests and affliction, apart from that we could have done some actual burst damage, even from range, which we clearly do not have right now apart from Eyebeam.

While UBC from Shadowlands gives us some on demand burst damage back, it once again will never work, I tested it for a few hours on dummies and it had the same problems when as an Azerite Trait, the terrain in WoW is just not made for this type of spells, causing you to either waste over half your fel rush if you want to land it or it just hits 20 yards behind you.

And thats the same problem again from BfA, they took away all our options and forced us into First Blood Demonic blade dance dodging everything. As usual, people QQ like they always do, having absolutely no clue of the class, and what did Blizzard do in return? They nerfed DH even further, crapped even moreso on Talents instead of giving options to not have to pick the obnoxious playstyle being the best one, instead just making it the tanky version as it was in Legion, but nope.

No one will play Momentum or Fel Barrage, no one will pick new Cycle of Hatred, Essence Break is still crap and both Desperate Instincts and Netherwalk will see even less play, if any, considering you have nothing left after Blur then. So enjoy a dumbed down version of BfA talents with no options for another 2 years.

You can have an reasonable amount of abilities right now in Shadowlands, but do you really want to play a more-annoying-to-play Colossus Smash version or a extremely weaker Fury of the Illidari spell, or a talent coupled to mobility once again that never hits?

Well done Blizzard, well done. How you can move from 3 viable last row talents to one is just +1.

I agree with what your saying, I don’t think the rotation needs to be complex, I just think it could use a bit more but that’s just me not saying I’m right.

Regarding soul rending I think they actually made this talent stronger relative to what it is in BFA and they made the other two talents weaker relative to what they are in BFA, given the fact soul rending is always picked I just feel those changes are nuts and sometimes blizzard logic leaves much to be desired.

I think they should do away with soul rending, vengeance never picks it while havoc always picks it forcing a demonic build.

I would just be happy with more thoughts behind the talents, and less reliance on borrowed powers to be efficient.

I just dont want to play demonic first blood for another 2 years, but this time weaker. No matter how fun the content is that is just lame.

Personally, I want to see a more complex DH playstyle. We can start by nerfing Annihilation and making Essence Break baseline. Make Soul Rending an active ability as well, and re-add 100% dodge on a 25 sec CD working against the next attack only.

Then we’re on the path to making DH more skillful and can allow for high potential.

I agree with making soul-rending an active ability, as for making essence break baseline I think most demon hunters would prefer they made first blood baseline, it’s all one to me either way(although essence break baseline would be another active ability which i think would be better come to think of it).

If soul-rending was changed to an active ability that was not reliant on demon form then that would open up the end tier talent options for different builds(and give a more pro-active playstyle rather than just passive benefits that don’t have to be thought about).

As for the dodge suggestion, sounds good to me.

From the start on blizzard didnt want this specc to be complicated, they said its gonna be easy to play.
