Good lore is the most important thing ofc as it keeps hype even more than zones itself
(bfa cinematic is still the biggest viewed wow’s launch trailer) - harbringers + launch cinematic hype
(shadowlands is still the biggest seller on launch day) - huge hype even after flop which bfa was due to way too slow content updating - covenant trailers pre launch hyped people a lot, even though launch cinematic was meh
And zones, we keep getting the same zones- snow zone, warm zone, green zone
pls you have talented art team that is being wasted, come up with something oryginal, like emerald dream but more, make something so abstract, totally new from everything else mixed with current design, but let’s not forget this is game afterall and creativity can get as far as you want. Make other mmos want to be like wow again
In my opinion the last really jaw dropping zone was Suramar City in Legion. The praise the Art Team got for that was phenomenal. Social Media was buzzing with praise.
We have not had anything since then where the community have really gone all out to praise them.
I think revendreth was pretty good, from a visual and fantasy standpoint.
I also remember seeing praise for the shadowlands zones in general (in terms of visuals), i think the art team did a good job.
I thought the zones in SL were all beautiful, except for the Maw, of course. In comparison, the DF zones are dog excrement.
SL might have had a slow content release, but people seem to forget the world was struck by COVID. Also, everyone being stuck at home might have contributed to the initial player numbers, with many of these players inevitably leaving when the lockdown was lifted.
Revendreth was my favorite zone in SL. The unique themes of each zone truly stood out in SL. In contrast, I don’t think any of the zones in DF have distinct personalities that set them apart.
I disagree: I think good zones are more important than good lore.
Take BfA for instance. I did not enjoy the overal story of that expansion, but I loved the launch patch zones: They’re some of the best they’ve ever created imo. I loved being there.
But sure; having both be good is of course what we all want.
They tried that with Zereth Mortis. Imo it failed. I did not enjoy the look and theme of that place at all (I was excited for a ‘less dreary place’ during SL, but in practice I did not like that place). But then again: All of Shadowlands failed imo when it comes to zones.
I feel exactly the opposite - I did not like any of the zones in SL (parts of Revendreth and parts of Ardenweald were ‘okay’). I love parts of the Waking Shores, the Ohn’Aran Plains and Azure Span. I’m not a big fan of Thaldraszus.
Each to their own.
Ohn’Aran Plains is, for me, the best zone in DF by far. It’s just a shame it doesn’t feel as lively as it should, partly due to dragon riding and zooming past everything. Maruukai was fun in the beginning, but after they added guards, no one engages in fights there anymore.
Came here to say the same thing. The 8.0 BfA zones were great - I’ve played through all the content to complete the loremaster achiev and imho some of the BfA zones are the best of any expack outside of Northrend and Surimar.
Northrend is a complete pile of poo. Having recently leveled there in classic wrath I remembered how awful the zones are with the exception of howling fjord
That’s all the Emerald dream was ever said to be though: Azeroth without the influence of the mortal races, that’s why we don’t get an entire expansion about it, it’s not as interesting as many people seem to think it is.
I thought DF had really nice zones, they all look good and mostly compliment dragonriding.
Even Oh’nahran plains had nice visual variety imo, and I usually don’t like the Nagrand-style grasslands, they usually come across as empty and samey.
true, art team is very good but they give them poor concepts, ardenweald etc indeed was great but colour palette is very poor
for example emerald dream looks better than other df zones, but it should have much richer colour palette, green, glowing purple, blue, pink etc, as for now it seems like it has all shades of green
very atmospheric for its time,a shedload of memorable moments, IF you took the time and didn’t just smash through it, had the best soundtrack next to WoD. hated the change in direction, but each to their own.
also, Vrykul…RAWR, not vulpera…squeaky squeaky i’m so epic YAAAY.
…don’t think i’ll ever get over the scars of ardenweald.
