Possible improvements for Fishing

Hello all, professional WoW fisherman here. I’ve gotten into fishing over the last year and am really enjoying it. I wanted to jot down my ideas when it comes to ways to make fishing more fun and to expand the fishing experience.

  1. Any buff on any pole. Why can’t I put Algari weaverline on my Underlight Angler? I earned that pole and I really love using it, I’ve been pretty sad to not see old Bones the Murloc all of TWW.

  2. Stacking fishing food. Nat Pagle loves beer, fishing seems to have a connection to beer in WoW, so why does Captain Rumsey’s Lager not stack with my Ghoulfish delight (or any other food buff for fishing, they cancel one another out). I’ve gone to all this time to get a license to make my lager, I’ve trained for hours in the kitchen learning to cut Ghoulfish, why am I not allowed to enjoy my Ghoulfish and chips AND a beer?

  3. Fishing chairs lifespan. We have other toys like the weather generators that will stay on until you leave a radius around them then they are removed from the world. Why can’t we have this with chairs? Please allow my chair stay in the world permanently while I’m sat in it and give me a few minutes or 100 yards of movement before it’s removed. Again, I love the chairs and I earned my Angler one, but I don’t use them because of the faff.

  4. AoE fishing buffs. Again it’s the faff as the Fisherman’s Spear doesn’t last long. Is it possible to make it permanent until I move out of range? I really enjoy getting involved in marathon group fishing sessions. It would be nice if we could put down a pole that just stays there while we natter and reel in.

  5. Transmog. I’ve put in a lot of time to collect the various poles from various places. Sometimes it’d be nice to see them even when they aren’t effective for the expac! Also, it is possible to transmog your fishing hat but you can’t turn it back into it’s original look! Please make the fishing gear available as mog and make it mog-able!

  6. Group/world fishing events. Tried these in DF with the lunkers, but I think just something simple would be better. For an hour a night, say… 7pm server time the “fish are jumping”. There’s a few large areas of the coast scattered through out the expac, one of which will become available. Maybe a different one each day. You fly over there and join the event by being in the “zone” which should be a section of coast and ocean/lake so that folk can get out on boats. Catch % on rare fish are buffed slightly and all fish for the expac can be caught in the zone for that hour.
To make it even more exciting, the rare fish chance could be buffed as more and more fish are caught from the area. This should be private to each player to discourage folk from just turning up to an event, sitting in the corner and collecting the rewards. If the event is up for an hour, at 14 seconds a cast, ~ 250 fish per person. So a goal of 50, 100, 150 and 200 fish to buff the chances of rare fish by 5%, then a further 2.5% and then 1% and then maybe a special drop/reward (cash, tokens, disconnect from the server, pet, something) for hitting 200 fish.

On point 6. I think it would be good if there was a global currency for fishing. I think the Dasher’s Medallions from TWW are great and these events should run around the world (1 pool active per expac per session). If folk really want to fish Legion during Midnight, why stop them. By sticking to a single currency and making the challenge private, you’re allowing solo players, small groups and raids to all have fun without the grief of “one person not pulling their weight” etc.

It also simplifies reward vendors for both future expacs and backwards compatibility when setting this up in old zones.

In addition to this madness I have a whole idea for dynamic boats with passengers that can be fished from but that’s for another day! Hope to hear what everyone thinks

Edit: removed talking about money made on the AH. I was looking for a way to demonstrate that I’m dead into fishing but that wasn’t a good one

You have reminded me that I still need to get the fishing raft

Unfortunately, because they want us to go and farm again from scratch every expansion. It’s the same principle behind not allowing enchants of the current expansion working on equipment from previous expansions.

I support the idea of non-stacking food; otherwise dedicated players would be able to achieve extreme values of Fishing skill that could possibly break the profession (or the economy)

Thumbs up

Yep, this should be fixed

I don’t like the idea of time-specific events, but I am not against the reintroduction of Fishing World Quests (non-competitive!)

My personal ideas on improvement would be to increase yield per catch based on skill (yes, 2 fish with 1 cast etc.), to have a chance of reeling in enemies that yield extra fish (like it happened with Archaeology) and implement world quests as mentioned above.

I would like it so I don’t require an addon to just be able to cast over water (by clickon on the water). It’s just a timesaver.

It’s much faster to get the one in DF if you just want a boat to speed about on

Thank you for the reply! I should have been clear that Captain Rumsey’s Lager should be able to stack with another food buff. Since beer is tied to fishing in WoW (all the famous fishermen seem to drink) it’s more about the “class fantasy” than a competitive edge.

Also, I’m with you on world quests! That’s another fun idea

Until this is improved, BetterFishing will just have to do :frowning:

Be nice if they’d make it fun instead of just clicking on a bobber. Make it more involved, with higher yield, like a minigame of sorts.

Heck, even FF14’s method I’d settle on.

I do disagree with you on this. It’s quite meditative as it is, rather like fishing in real life it’s slow and patient. I don’t want a load of busy work to do, I just want to chill with mates. I just want more toys and places to be slow and patient!

I just want to be able to fish on the water without being a Shammy/DK

I’m confused. Right now, you just press the key to cast your line and when the fishline nibbles you can press F (or what your interact key is set to) to reel it in. There is no clicking in the water required.

^This is the thing you need! It’s really quick to get compared to the Angler Raft.

I thought this was added in BetterFishing, is this just the interact key that’s doing this?

Yes, that’s how I do it, no addons at all. I press 1 to cast the line (it’s set to 1 on my 2nd action bar), I click F to reel it in. It has been like that at least since Dragonflight.

I have an addon so I don’t have to use any keybind to cast. I can literally click on any open water and it casts.

So you can just do everything with your mouse, you cast in water and click dobber when it has caught something.

Does it cast the line at the exact spot you click, or does it simply do it as if you pressed the ability (ie. cast it with little variance at length and angle)?

I prefer the key action, since i can then play with 1 and F, while using the mouse to scroll on the 2nd monitor.

I don’t. So I’d just love it if I didn’t need an addon for it.

I also dont’ really have a convenient keybind to spare. They are all combat. This is just simple convenience. Other games fish like this as standard.

Huh? You can keybind the reel in? Neat xD :dracthyr_crylaugh: Ever since vanilla up to today I use the action button to throw out and click the bobber with my pointer :dracthyr_lulmao: Wow :dracthyr_crylaugh:
Well up until I saw Puny mentioning that addon some while ago as it frees up an actionbar slot for me :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

It works the same as using the ability directly, of course  So yes, it still places it randomly
