Hello all, I’m using Lenovo Legion Y740 with Core i7-9750H and RTX 2070-MQ but lately, I have begun to notice that there’s a performance drop. I used to game on max settings with no problems, but this has gone down lately and some times gives me about 30-40 fps only while in out world, and about 50-60 fps in raids. Now I can get the best performance when running on “7” settings, not “10” as I used to.
I believe the cpu and gpu I have, even on a laptop, are pretty powerful and can run WoW on max settings easily.
Does someone else have the same laptop can share their experience? And what can I troubleshoot to detect if something is not working as intended and find a fix for it? I’m using the latest driver update 457.09.
ray tracing cripples performance on everything. sometimes you have enough performance where you’re still in a good spot afterwards, but it will always be a huge hit. if you’re unhappy with your performance it’s the best place to start.
If you’re going to use ray tracing with a 2000 series. Turn on DLSS as well. It’ll double the frame rate in most cases. I had to do that to get decent framerate even when playing Control with highest raytracing effects on. You don’t notice any drop in quality with dlss on at all, so it’s worth it for the boost.
Also, could be that you may need to blow/clean out dust from the laptop itself. Heat can reduce performance as things will have to throttle down for protecting the chips itself.
Thanks, but pardon my noobiness, I can’t find the DLSS option in the settings. Is it something I turn on from inside the game settings? Or from the GPU settings (NVIDIA Control Panel or GeForce Experience?).
