I dont have enough space on my pc for wow+20GB pre-patch, however do you know the full game download size after pre-patch comes out?
If it fits on my computer, I’ll reactivate my subscription now! Thanks

My folder with all the PTRs, beta and addons is 90gb.
500gb hard drives are about £15-20 at most now.
Thanks, and good idea, I’ll have a look into external drives
Shadowlands asks for 100 gb on requirements, for sure its the expansion final size.
External drives will be a huge bottleneck. Not recommended.
I have to agree with that, most computers allow you to add an internal drive or two. Which is the price I was stating for. Laptops are another matter altogether.
If you have a lot of stuff stored on your machine, like pictures and movies you could transfer those to an external USB External Drive to free up space, either a HDD one or a Flash drive.
A lot of people never clear out their drive. Press Windows+E, right click on your C drive and into properties, then on clean up disk, then on Clean up System files and tick everything. This will empty you recycle bin too and may take some time. A friend of mine recovered about 25% of their hard drive space doing these things.
There is also a compress files in there, which can help but can slow down programs a little.
As additional tip: if you have own photos, videos etc. stuff you don’t want to lose make backups. This also includes stuff like WoW’s addon settings which are usually located in a folder which OneDrive etc. do not automatically offer to backup.
Backups can be either cloud based or eg. external hard disk. Ideally you shoul have different backups in different locations but it can be bit annoying to manage (there are services and software to help with that). I personally have a) cloud backup with versioning (daily, automatic), b) local backup on external hard disk (~monthly, manual).
Oh, and do test restoring backups every now and then: backup is only useful if you can actually restore stuff from it.
External drivers are great for “slow storage” of photos, videos etc. Just make sure you have least two copies (eg. in the cloud and on the disk).
Thanks all, much appreciated. I had wondered that about the slowness of external drives. I’ll try to free up space on my laptop as per the suggestions instead.
I’m hoping that the total size will be ~75 GB. The current download is 64.4 GB, and I guess a fair amount of the 20GB pre-patch will replace old code.
You need 100 gb for shadowlands.
Its on the game requirements.
