Pre-raid Trinket Thoughts & Simulation

I guess everyone knows the Furious Ragefeather trinket. I had a 240-something version of it and got the heroic 359 version by spamming the dungeon and it is a strong trinket. The damage proc is typically about 3%-5% of my DPS.

There are other interesting trinkets though and I’ve been trying to test to see how they compare etc.

I had a low iLevel Primal Turtle Shell that I got at around level 60 (maybe the first rare I killed) and recently got a 372 version of it. It is quite strong with the mastery proc and uptimes are usually at least 30%. Given the higher intellect and how good mastery is for my spec, it’s probably close to the FR359 and possibly even better.

Another trinket that I initially with a slightly lower iLevel is the Bottomless Reliquary Satchel. It’s up there as a world quest reward pretty much every week and now I have a 376 version of it. The cooldown is 1 minute and the effect is random and can be relatively useless. It often does AOE damage & healing, which doesn’t do anything if you are full health and out of range for the AOE to hit the. However, it also frequently gives mastery, crit, versatility, haste (combined with run speed) effects and the uptimes are actually quite good. If you are in a group that takes damage, even the AOE heal could be considered useful.

Single target on a dummy, I’m actually torn between these trinkets. I think way FR acts when the target dies makes it very appealing for a lot of stuff.

I asked RaidBots to sim me both ways and the FR+PTS combo sims about 1k dps higher than BRS+PTS. However, looking at the simulation results, there’s no damage or any buffs associated with the BRS, so effectively that’s pretty much half the trinket benefit down the drain from the point of view of the simulation. So, I think the simulation at least on RaidBots for BRS is seriously lacking and might make a lot of us totally underestimate how good it is.

And yes, I have a Ruby Whelp Shell 359 that is fully trained for single target. So far, not impressed at all. Pretty similar to the shark trinket I got from the community feast…

BTW, I play frost and have BRS bound to flurry. I noticed it procced mastery a lot of the time, so I thought it would make sense to line it up with Winter’s Chill on the target. It’s such a short cooldown that I think it would be wasted if bound on Frozen Orb (or even Icy Veins) and I would probably use it less often if I left it down to manual activation.

You only need 2 trinkets and a third if you have the ring feom Eranog

Ragefeather and whispering incernate icon

And the Eye of Skovald from HoV if you have the ring from Eranog that deals fire damage. Rest of the trinkets are useless.

Some part of the “pre-raid” in my subject probably went unnoticed? Also, I think trinkets like the reliquary satchel are probably worth noting just because they are so easy to obtain and upgrade.

Personally, I’m trying to stay out of guilds and group content. I have spent way too much of my life raiding etc. Just back for a “WoW holiday” of sorts and check out the new expansion. I did do LFR though, but the point is that there’s no commitment from my part.

Primal Turtle Shell (372) is 1310 mastery with 30% uptime, so about 393 mastery on average (and you can configure it to pick any secondary stat). I think 30% uptime is actually conservative, but that’s how it sims.

My Eye of Skovald is iLevel 50, I think.

Fire proc on turtle is stronger than the mastery. Its stronger than some raid trinkets on ST.

The mastery is great for frozen orb and ice lance spam though. I tested single target back when I got the lower iLevel version and went with the damage for a long time. I switched it to mastery pretty recently and I have been quite happy with it. But it’s great that it’s flexible (at least if you’re willing to travel to the shrine).

You can choose the proc on the trinket down by the target count and stuff. Stats scale with stats, at a certain point mastery will be better but preraid the dmg proc is definetely stronger.

Pre-raid there are only two trinkets worth using.
Talon and Whelp for Arcane, Fire.
Ritual shell on Fire turtle and whelp for Frost mage.

Minmaxing pre-raid trinkets is kind off useless though.
