Preparing for SL and gold making

Hi all

I created a similar topic in Professions subforum but there doesn’t seem to be any activity.

I have a few questions regarding Shadowlands professions, classes and gold making. I will explain my situation and ask questions as I go along. And I will number these questions to make it easier to answer them.

I am primarily interested in gathering professions: Mining and especially Herbalism. (I could also be interested in Alchemy but only if it’s worth it.)

0). Do you think alchemy will be worth it / profitable in Shadowlands?

I created a decent amount of gold in my time gathering herbs and crafting flasks, but lately I had really bad experiences with selling stuff on AH for reasonable prices. Especially after the revamp of auction house and with the uprising of new multi-boxers.

And now with Shadowlands around the corner I want to try my luck again. So far I have been playing my warlock who has herbalism and alchemy. I’m considering to drop alchemy and take mining instead.

1). Do you think it’s a bad idea? Could there be any flasks or (battle) potions from BFA that still could sell for decent prices in SL?

Alternatively I could just play a different character that has mining and herbalism. But I’m not sure how these new professions work in SL.

2). Will those profession be like before? Meaning that you get ranks / stars the more you gather and those ranks affect how much you gather per node?

The immediate thing that comes to my mind when not playing my current “main” warlock character in SL is that he also has a fishing rod from Legion. And this rod makes it possible to swim really fast even when using Sky Golem. But other than that I would really like to try so the other classes I’m just not sure which ones. Which leads me to the next question:

3). Which classes do you think would be most user-friendly, relaxing and suited for “lazy” play? This class should also be helpful for gathering professions, as I prefer to gather more than to grind. I am considering Druid or a Hunter.

So, when I do decide which additional character I might level for SL I want to do it the smart way.

4). What is the best, fastest way of gaining levels at the moment?

Thanks for reading this topic and I hope it wasn’t too confusing with all these spread-out questions.

In my opinion Alchemy is always useful. Maybe just a little less this expansion with the increased cooldown, but everyone uses Flasks or Potions all the time. Not to mention there might be a useful Trinket to be had as well.

No clue about this, but I would say stick to Shadowlands Flasks. No knowing when Blizzard realizes they left old content items overpowered and nerfs them to nothingness in current content. Happens a lot.

I have no clue about this one, sorry. There is probably a WoWHead page or a video explaining this.

Druid is an obvious choice. Being able to pick your Herbs while still “mounted” (Travel Form) saves tedium in the long term. A Cloth wearing class might not be the best idea, especially since Warlock has very little actual mobility besides the one that equally damages them on use.

Cannot definitively answer this, since so far all the paths I have taken have been very long-winded and far from “optimal” (Classic zones, TBC zones without Flying, exclusively Dungeons). People seem to say Warlords of Draenor grants quicker levels. Would imagine zones with Bonus Objectives would be particularly helpful.

Thanks for replying. What do you mean by this?

There are certain Quests that you don’t actually pick up, but auto-add themselves whenever you travel within the area they apply to. Usually these appear as percentages that you have to top off, doing stuff in the area, and once it reaches 100% you receive a sum of Gold and XP automatically, without needing to go to a Quest turn-in.

For example, there is an area in Highmountain, Broken Isles, where you have to hinder Harpies. You can kill Harpies or bother their nests. If you walk out of the area, the Quest disappears - but it reappears when you return with progress intact.

It saves a lot of travel time between receiving Quests from hubs and then returning to turn them back in for your reward.

Edit to mention that only zones starting from WoD will have Bonus Objectives. In BfA they are so designed that you do them alongside doing regular Quests.

Mboxers numbers and botters will be reduced surely, since blizz banned 3rd party input broadcasting programs, so prices will probably go up.

As said before, potions /flasks will be always needed by raiders and high m+ pushers. Choose a server with ALOT of high end raiders.

Alchemy is probably the only profession that’s really worthwhile. Anyone doing any high end content will need flasks and not just one or 2, I will stock up with 3 or 4 stacks of flask at a time. For anyone serious about raiding or M+ flasks are a must have.

Having said that I make a nice little pot of gold with tailoring, making bags, everyone will want those and they can go for a nice price.

Does anyone know if anchorweed like herb exist in SL ?

There is ALWAYS a demand for consumables… food is a great money maker too alongside Alchemy.

Gear professions are ‘meh’ in the long run.

Yes, its called nightshade.

Both druid and hunter have their benefits long term but I personally think Hunter comes out on top at the start of an expansion. They are way better solo, you will often aggro mobs while gathering, and we can’t fly so druids flight form isn’t a huge benefit at first. Hunters run fast with the *Trailblazer and Pathfinder talent too. Druid is way better for gathering once we can fly, however.

I’d start with Hunter and level a Druid later, personally… if I was in your situation.

Thank you all for replying.

Also, I have around 2300 Spare Parts. Is there a way I can convert (or process) them at the moment that can give me some advantage or more gold?

Should I just make Mechagon rings / trinketes and vendor them?

I made Chain Ignitercoil from the spare parts (if you have Galvanic Oscillator). i think its worth more than create ring/trinkets.
