Primal Strike is useless

Shamans, do you use this ability?

It’s a filler spell for Enh until they get Stormstrike, to be used when Lava Lash is on CD. Stormstrike replaces it at level 18 i think.

it serves no purpose for resto or ele as they get more dps by casting LB back to back. In that sense it’s largely a levelling tool for 1-10 where using primal strike in melee to finish off a mob will be quicker than casting lightning bolt.

I am elemental and have no idea why this spell is in the book.

yeah you can keep it there, you won’t be using it. It just remains there even though you never use it ever again in a meaningful way.

It’s the same for many classes with abilities they learn 1-10, some of them don’t get replaced, but they fail to serve a useful purpose really (Arcane Shot for Survival, Steady Shot for Survival although they can fill a niche i guess…). Death and Decay for Frost Dks is another one. Literally no interactions with other abilities, deals balls damage, it’s just not worth having on your actionbars because you can use Howling Place to engaged in ranged pulling. It serves no real purpose beyond using an entire rune to generate pititful damage when saving that rune for an obliterate (half of obliterate’s damage is worth more than D and D’s damage for Frost) is preferable. But it “adds flavour” so they won’t remove them even if they’re close to useless because a while back players complained having spells taken away felt bad.

Yes, makes no sense of making it baseline.

I agree. I don’t understand it’s purpose beyond Enhancement spec.

Even then, what’s the point, you have it until Stormstrike.

Why not just give enh Stormstrike at 10? to me it makes little sense giving enh a “filler spell” they can spam (Primal Strike) and replacing it with an ability that had a moderately low cooldown, because it changes their playstyle from “spam this, unless other ability is ready” into one that is entirely cooldown based.

This took me a while to get used to on my enh shaman and made the spec feel a truckton slower once i picked up stormstrike.

I get the whole “this replaces X” spells where it fills a similar role (for example mind flay replacing smite, concussive shot replacing wing clip) but primal strike is a no cd filler spell whereas stormstrike is the predominant ability in Enh’s rotation and isn’t spammable outside of RNG.

It’s like taking frostbolt on the 1-10 mage and replacing it with arcane barrage when respecing to arcane…replacing the “filler” spell with something that can’t be spammed is ??

Initially i thoguht primal strike’s return meant it was part of enh’s rotation to be used when all else is on cd to help fish for stormbringer procs, then i saw it replaces it and was a bit “eh? so if stormstrike doesn’t reset cooldown what exactly is an enh shaman pressing after using lava lash and flame shock?” and the answer is nothing. Unless maelstrom weapon is ready, is the above is true and SS doesn’t reset cooldown, you literally auto attack for 3+ seconds which feels so much slower than how enh was in BFA I have to say.

The cynical me believes that it’s a brain check. If I’m foolish enough to use it, then I deserve my lesser dps.
