Speaking from ele PoV, no need for ptr to be up to say how bad the proposed change is.
So on PTR, new PW will simply damage targets affected by Flame Shock and it atill gives Lava Surge and Splintered Elements, but doesnt put Flame Shock on target or cleaves Lava Burst.
The proposed change is a nerf in every possible way.
The coeficient is 150% spellpower, and Lava Burst is 130% but it always crits, which means it is a damage nerf.
No more Lava Burst means no maelstrom generation, a flat nerf. It is also a fun factor nerf, Lava Burst spread was iconic at this point.
The reasoning behind this change is ridiculous, Prim Wave is in no way complex and since it appears to no longer put Flame Shock, it is even more tedious to spread it now.
Bad change overall and a big hit to elemental playstyle and “flow”.

I don’t understand the change either. Looks like it was made with enhancement in mind.
At least for enhance it gives some mw stacks and unlocks harder hitting ability.
I also do not understand why for ele Splintered Elements is 1 pointer, and 2 pointer for enh.
For me the biggest problem is inability to spread flame shock efficiently and on demand.
Liquid magma totem is so lousy, on 24sec cd you can apply FS to 3 targets, WOW.
Change to give ascendance ability to apply FS is also very weird. It does not make sense to have ability to apply FS in AoE on 2 or 3 min cooldown, and Deeply Rooted Elements is too unpredictable for that purpose. (I am not even counting Surge of Power as option to spread FS, it is just too bad, you almost never want to waste it on FS.)
Just REMOVE COOLDOWN FROM FLAME SHOCK ALREADY ! and give ele ability to spread FS easily on short cooldown, or on a proc, perhaps something similar to enhancement’s Voltaic Blaze.
Enhancement only needed to wait 5 years to be able to spread FS easily, I guess ele just needs to wait couple more years
XD
In proposed implementation Prim Wave is useless, it does low damage, requires very annoying setup, generates no resources. It’s sole purpose is to give Splintered Elements.
I would love to see it removed and replaced with modified chain harvest, which would damage and apply FS to 6 targets, if less than 6 targets are hit it would do more damage per missing target, (to scale it for single target). It then could have connected choice node where you can choose between some kind of buff like splintered elements, and second choice could be some kind of cooldown reduction based on maelstrom spent.

As an Enh enjoyer, I don’t like the primordial wave change. The thing that keeps me coming back to the spec is the dopamine hit from a nice aoe tempest. I hope this gets reverted.

So after a full week of PTR, safe to say the change is as bad as expected.
There is nothing fun about new Primordial Wave and it sets ele gameplay back for several years.
Please revert this.

Will shamelessly bump this thread one more (and last time).
Primordial Wave change, no matter the ridiculous developer remark about the current “complexity”, is a heavy nerfbat to ele in every possible way.
For pvp, it is a massive nerf because those 30 seconds “goes” are the only way ele generates pressure outside of Ascendance. No Lava Bursts from PW - no overloads - no maelstrom - no Earth Shocks.
Same applies to PvE, but it doesnt outright kill ele like it does in PvP (with current tuning).
With this change, Primordial Wave became a bland, boring button. Seeing those Lava Bursts and overloads cleaving was the whole appeal of the ability, it now serves soloely to proc Splintered elements. And it just feels so awkard to press.
This change was made with enh in mind, but you gave enh an interesting new talent to make PW an exciting cooldown. You gave ele no such thing, even tho the spec was basically centered around it since Shadowlands.
And finnally, this does nothing to reduce the “complexity” or the ability. You will still do the exact same thing (spread Flame Shocks) and hit LvB, except the payoff isnt there. It just makes it more tedious because we need to manually apply 1 extra flame shock now.
I will be shocked if this goes trough.
