Dear Blizzard,
When people were complaining about Archeology being doggie doodoo, too random, prebis items locked behind a true rng circus etc etc. Instead of saying “it’s so worderful to see all these people in the world digging”, you could’ve just acknowledged the problem and come up with a solution that could’ve been the best outcome to please both sides of the argument. An NPC called Archie “Frag” Grant in Stormwind (and obviously in Orgrimmar) or whatever who lets you trade in your already solved artifacts for 5 fragments of your choice? (Just like in MoP)
Would’ve made the whole grind more enjoyable because you dont have to avoid useless digsites or be mad about getting fossils or night elf sites again. You just dig, solve, trade in, repeat. This could be the solution for the problem and wouldnt cause any major backlash from the community (in my opinion). Would satisfy both parties and MAYBE pull in more people to get these sweet rewards.
Please, consider this solution for the rest of Cata. I wouldn’t even be disappointed if we didn’t get the changes that you might’ve in store for us but please let us get a more reasonable approach to this profession after the first couple of heroic clears.
