If you don’t run dungeons or raids is it not possible or worth it to craft things for yourself at higher level?
It is possible to craft gear but the same ilvl with open-world drops. It is always worth crafting higher-level gear.
I noticed for enchanting the only place to get purple shards is from mythic+ and raids though?
No it is not.
Spec into insight of the blue and epics that are only meant to be disenchanted will drop.

Enchanting is different from Blacksmithing and Alchemy I levelled. They don’t have Primal chaos or Primal Focus? Here:

Enchanting is a wonderful way to make gold right now if you don’t have anything else to do. Especially, if you can craft weapon enchantment, the quality of it doesn’t matter, you can make good gold.

You need 10 Primal Focus to upgrade it. It drops from M+11 and higher, heroic raid bosses and after some 2k PvP rating.
If you need to upgrade it again, you need Concentrated Primal Focus which drops from M+16 and higher, from mythic raid bosses.

you can make alot more gold by just gathering/crafting materials and then by the gear on the AH.
It is possible to craft yourself 405 gear with every renown you max. But 392 gear is perfectly fine for open world content.
