Professions in DF

I am curious what are your thought and plans for professions in DF? What do you think that can be good? Which one seems interesting to you? Do you think there will be some “lazy mode” professions? Do you think that crafting professions will require gathering professions to be with levels?

My Shaman has LW/skinning, mostly thematically, I find skinning the laziest gathering profession and Leatherworking for making some tmogs (but didn’t do that a lot, to be honest).

What I am looking for and seems interesting is Alchemy (paired with Herbalism) and Engineering (paired with mining). Even that my LW and skinning are mostly at max for all previous expansions (except Pandaria), I am really thinking to swap it. Alchemy for making juicy things and thematically and Engi looks very versatile with brez, teleports, bots, etc.

What are your plans? Are you happy with all these changes? Do you think they could do it better, simpler, harder, etc.?

I too am a Leatherworker & Skinner. I used to keep it up to date but I have ignored Leatherworker in BFA and SL for no real reason but a lack of enthuses. I have leveled Skinning but just by skinning whatever beasties I killed whilst out questing.
My Paladin is a Blacksmith & Miner and has done neither since Legion.

I used to level professions to gear up some alts and for the achievements. I’ll likely go and catch up with BFA and SL professions someday as a box-ticking exercise.
I guess catch up gear (such as Zereth Mortis WQ gear) has made profession gear redundant.

I liked the questing element of professions in Legion, it made them a bit more interesting. Although the Dungeon requirements were a mistake, forcing people into dungeons never has good results.

I’ll take a look at the DF profs and see how it works. I fear it may be aimed more at players who want to go more deeply into it than I do. I suspect those of us who dabble in these hobbies might be left behind and unable to max out the skill levels for achievements or to make anything useful at all.

Currently I am in the process of leveling up enough characters to have one of each profession covered by them.

My old main had engineering and alchemy, and sadly neither are ones I can really swap away from (Alchemy because I have Vial of the Sands recipe and Engineering because I have all of the repair bot recipes, Reaves, Jeaves and whatnot).

I currently have Leatherworking and skinning on my current main (monk) and I plan to stick with that. I sometimes miss the extra duration on flasks, and the convenience of repair bots and wormholes, but the only profession I can see I can drop for either is skinning.

Portals, jeevs, brez, etc. A lot of good things and its hard to pass it. Same for potion durations, especially if you’re running a lot of dungeons and raids is very useful, good money saver.

Skinning is my passive gold maker since I am not a huge fan of running around and gather and with skinning I just skin whatever I kill so I don’t have to move around too.

Even if I really like to keep everything around my characters lore-wise, I think I would have the best usage of engineering (I hardly can imagine dwarf shaman as an engineer, lol) by looking on my playstyle (I play a bit of everything and brez, mailbox, speed boots, portals, gliders, etc. would give me really good options).

Would nice if I could pair skinning and engi but think I would slack on mats a lot
