Is professions really matter? I know they are important in classic, especially for a warrior who needs blacksmith for the legendary weapon.
But in retail, is it needed? Ignore the making money issue. I mean all the things you craft or gather.
And if so, what’s recommended for a warrior?
You can get plenty of gear from quests, World Quests, PvP and PvE content so an armourcrafting profession (Blacksmithing, Tailoring, Leatherworking) so if you aren’t so interested in them feel free to leave them out. With them you can however make consumables like horseshoes that can’t be gotten from quests.
Jewelcrafting and Alchemy for example are professions that are generally useful for any class. Gems can be crafted only by JC and Potions, Elixirs and Flasks are Alchemy consumables so you have to constantly make more of them.
its not needed. alchemy is just really useful for pots but thats about it. no need to craft gear or anything like that because you ll get heaps by just playing the game.
in contrast to classic is retails equip very short lived until it gets replaced in the most cases.
Professions don’t really matter in current wow, you can still make gold and it doesn’t add anything to your character. Alchemy + herbalism is a good combination or even herbalism + mining just for the materials to sell and the experience bonus while leveling. My advice is you should only bother with professions if you find it interesting and fun. At the end you won’t get much out of it.
So far gear professions could craft two of your BIS items (or really close to at least, any upgrade afterward has less than 3% chances to drop) with a raid material and a lot of profession mats.
Alchemy double the flask duration, enchanters get rich from useless drops, JWC craft BIS ring (only 1 sadly) and caligraphy offers special tools and class buffs but nothing you can’t obtain overwise.
Engineers have a bunch of cool stuff and vanity items, as well as NPCs you can spawn like vendors, transmog, mail and so on
If you raid Blacksmith is a good option. If you need gold for consummables for stuff like that herb / alchemy is always good. Enchanting is great for any class really and things like engineering, JWC or calligraphy are only good if you need one of their crafts or like the profession.
The thing is that I saw somewhere that blacksmithing “eats” a lot of your gold (at least in classic).
I have engi in classic and it’s also expensive, I currently have about 21k gold (my 160k gold are on a different server ).
So can I make blacksmith + engi and not be broke as hell?
P.s - what profession can craft me 2 BiS items? And what they are? I’ve been away for a long time
You just need to level up mining along BS and you’ll be fine.
BFA blacksmith and classic’s are really different in their requirements. It no longer use gems nor is timegated behind daily crafts (like arcanite in classic) and most of the materials needed to level it up are really cheap currently (5 to 10g each on my server altho some base leatherworking material still smh sells for more (bloodstained bone, someone maintains the market at 20gold and it still smh sells)
If you just level up to 120 you’ll get a few BOE/BOP drops. Keep them until you can scrap them at the scrapper. 1 in 6~7 will drop expulsom, a BoP material needed for any high level craft, like your two raid quality items.
You can craft normal raid quality gear (great compared to other casual content but you’ll easily find better gear in m+ or heroic raid) with maybe one or two hour of farming (or a generous donation to the auction house) but you’ll need to run the raid in normal or heroic to obtain enough Raid material to craft better gear
Professions are currently well and truly broken and the big 3; Tailoring, Leatherworking and Blacksmithing currently have zero impact on the game, or your character
As a Warrior you don’t really need any item, apart from maybe the engineering helm. Since you are asking this question, I doubt you are the kind of guy that is min maxing and so I think you should not put effort into the professions.
What happened with just trying and exploring what the possibilities are though? Or do raids and slowly level up a profession. I don’t see why something should be excluded. You may be able to craft a very good item that will last for a long time.
Well, gathering professions are time consuming (a bit) and I want to lvl fast.
But crafting professions are interesting to me, that’s why I wanted to know what is best for warrior items, even if it’s not an item for like or BiS ( currently I have all the heirlooms bedside dread pirate ring).
You need a currency from the raid, which allows you to repair an anvil. You’ll need this anvil to craft the 425+ilvl Bind on Pickup gear i talked about previousely. The first step (410ilvl) only requires you an outdoor currency (manapearls)
So this isn’t really a matter of cheaper (as you won’t find ores in raid, only this currency), but more like an addition to your gearing path.
As a “new” player (not even lvl120 right ?) you’ll need to go through a bit of catchup before you can attempt raids and mythic + dungeons and professions may help in this regard. But like many things in BFA nothing is really “required”, it may be better to do it but there are other ways to obtain something similar.
For example doing a daily win in unranked BG will reward you 40 conquest (there are many other ways to get it don’t worry), if you reach 500 you’ll get to pick a 415 (410 for the first weapon) item among 6 possibles ones. You’ll also get to claim your weekly chest one reset later, which will give you some currencies and a random 415ilvl item.
So spending a few hours doing WPVP / unranked PVP will give you similar rewards than the profession one (although the 410ilvl + socket is better than a 415ilvl item). You also have two WB in nazjatar (rotating every week) which give you access to 6 other 415ilvl items (only ~30% chances to drop an item tho)
Daily emissarie quests will sometimes drop weapons/gear based on your current ilvl and scaling up to 415 too.
You don’t need any profession to casualy gear up to 410 ~420ilvl, it’s just yet another option (and with greatly reduced RNG compared to the other methods, you are sure that you’ll get this item with a gem socket but the secondary stats are RNG)
Mythic + will reward you with much better gear anyway, you’re free to pick the content you like the most to gear until you reach that point
Well yes I am “new” right now, played both legion and WLOD, but because I was with a friend I jumped lvls fast and didn’t really learned the game.
So I started fresh on draenor server because maelstrom is kinda low on players.
Thanks for everyone for all the help, I guess I’ll go for crafting professions (engi + blacksmith) in order to get some gear in my non heirlooms slots
The monelite gear (lvl111) has the stats of lvl115 gear btw, might help while leveling. It’ll be hard to make gold with BS btw, the profession isn’t in a good state for gold making.
forgot to talk about it : It’s doable but will cost quite a bit of gold from a fresh character (you may need ~800 ores to 1-100 BS i think so it’ll cost up to 10k gold if you don’t farm them yourself. Engineering should be similar.
You may try to sell the crafted gear on the AH but i doubt you’ll earn much this way. 8.2 pretty much killed the catchup gear market with the benthic system
I’m pretty sure you need to keep the profession for the crafted gear but you can also start with BS / mining then drop mining if you have enough gold (or farm everything you need until you can craft your BoP helm with engineering and your two BoP BS gear, but it’ll either take you a while or a lot of gold)
250 osmenite ore for the 2 410 pieces and 50 expulsom
150 osmenite 30 expulsom
80 expulsom will require a lot of items scrapped… Might not be wise to craft the 3 all things considered ( nearly 500 items send to the scrapper, it’ll cost a lot of money)
mb tends to forgot that, made a bulk of expulsom with cheap linen so it’s not an issue anymore …
How did you farm the expulsom ? Good old tailloring toon ?
