I’m in the process of creating a male Night Elf character, but I can’t seem to settle on a name that looks good & sounds cool.
From what little time I’ve spent looking at Night Elf names, they seem to have a focus on vowels, especially pairs of vowels together, as well as the letter “y” which would have a vowel sound. Here are some examples of NPC names - Erion, Matheil, Raedon, Fylerian, Cyroen, Kieran & Saenorion… Some of these are not easy to pronounce at first glance.
I’ve been dabbling with some Elven name generators just to get some ideas. One pattern that seems to be occurring a lot are names that end in “eas”, which I quite like. However, I’m not quite sure how it would correctly be pronounced… So for example the name “Malatheas” - does the ending sound like “eus”, Ma-la-theus, like Morpheus from the Matrix… OR does the ending sound like “eese”, Ma-la-theese, like Reese the chocolate brand.
Any help, guidance or suggestions on Night Elf names would be greatly appreciated.
Ishnu-alah, friend. I am in no way an expert, but based on the little I have heard of similarly spelled words and names, my two coppers go to the ‘Morpheus’ alternative.
I wouldn’t worry too much about making it sound like the names of others. WoW elf names have no internal consistency, drawing from greek, latin, french, persian and slavic roots. Probably even more, but the bigger point is that no matter the supposed connection to Darnassian as a language, a night elf name can be a lot of vastly different things and a reasonable combination of vowels can make do when all else falters.
