Pros and cons of cataclysm

Hey so I decided to make this thread about cata to see what people dont like and like, I can add 1 pro which is transmog, that’s all. Feel free to discuss the pros and cons of cata.

well,

  • pvp was better than wrath pvp
  • dungeons were better than wrath dungeons
  • raids in general offered more interesting mechanics than wrath raids
  • tol borad was better than wintergrasp
  • class balance was better than wrath class balance
  • class tier sets amazingly designed

i also think that transmog is a con, completely deletes class identify, if transmog is why you play the game, retail is all about that.
other cons

  • old world changed, which tbf since classic vanilla no one really goes there anymore.

Pros:
-Original heroics were a great challenge, good fun and felt rewarding to progress through.

Cons:
-Archeology was horrible, especially when pre raid BIS items came from it, complete RNG fest.
-Tier 11 whilst having some memorable encounters, were largely forgettable raids.
-Tol Barad’s original state was broken, the defender’s basically couldn’t lose if they had some semblance of tactic (which you could argue is similar to Wintergrasp right now).
-The new revamped vanilla world was great…but sadly unless you were levelling you had no reason to visit or even fly over since portals took you everywhere (except Archeology grinding).
-LFR.
-Having separate 10 and 25 lockouts was a terrible idea. Did it not occur to them that people in 25s might enjoy 10s too?
-Boss tuning was busted between 10 and 25, despite them claiming they would be tuned the same, this was never a realistically achievable goal. 10 man heroic Al’Akir was easier than 25, and 25 man heroic Nefarian was easier than 10.

Getting one shotted by deathwing in the open world.

Woah! Another cata topic! Isn’t it too soon

Maybe I misremember, but there weren’t wotlk topics every other day during p2 of tbc. And tbc topics were definitely not coming up during p2 of classic!

Dunno, to me these cata topics are like a sign that wrath is pretty much done and dusted

Anyway, the biggest pro of cata is dwarf shamans. I will finally be able to make a mini-Thor and cast lightnings left and right

They were  I remember them well.

ah well, maybe I didn’t them among all the cries about how open world had turned into a slaughterhouse… good times

cata hype cata hype!

Rated bgs😅

Pro’s: Makes people quit WoW and might get something done IRL instead.

Con’s: Everything you can imagine.

Well, henry cavill plays or did play wow and has a net worth of 40 million,

Just becasue you might be unable to function while playing wow doesnt mean everyone else cant :man_shrugging:

Agreed on all points, especially T11 looks so good compared to the fugly trash that is mage t8, 9 and 10.

100% agree. Transmog makes what gear actually lools like completely irrelevant, forever.

This is what actually made me quit back in the day.
Heroic Sindragosa was so hard we actually couldn’t kill it with my guild, and they slowly stopped raiding. Then all I had left to do day after day, was grind that godawful archeology for the stupid caster staff from dwarven artefacts. What IDIOT made a rare reward from insufferable grind a bis item literally killed wow for me. That and running the revamped ZG and ZA as daily dungeon with mentally challenged idiots from queue who had no idea about the mechanics or desire to learn them.

In fact, looking at it with the benefit of hindsight, apart from archeology being objectively terrible addition, early Cata wasn’t nearly all that bad of an expansion. It was personal circumstance that made me quit back then. Also my server was dying, I just had no idea such things happened back then, but now with Classic experience I know my server Sporeggar RP-PvP was actually dead realm by todays Classic standard. Maybe it got bad later with Raid Finder and what not, I wouldn’t know, I quit like a week into firelands with no guild to raid with and only daily quest and archeology grind to look forward to.
I actually wouldn’t mind trying Cata Phase 1 with a strong raiding guild I’m in now.

I think it’s got to do with the fact that there was never any doubt Wrath is coming the moment they announced TBC Classic in 2020. There definitely were tbc topics before it got confirmed, but they got drowned out by the fact game was basically unplayable in P2 on all PvP minority factions. While it is an open question whether Cata Classic is happening at all, so people feel compelled to express their opinion on it.

Pros:

  • More interesting zones visually
  • Transmog added a lot of time to spend in the game outside of raiding
  • LFR wasn’t well-recieved back then and I hated it as everyone else, but I strongly think that LFR actually has place in current server population situation.

Cons:

  • Talents. This was the main gamebreaker for me. Who wants to be pidgeonholed to a spec with little to no room for some tinkering?
  • Old world destroyed.
  • Flying in Azeroth
  • Archaeology. Does this needs explanation?

Anyways, I am not going to play Cata Classic if they come with it. I’d rather stick to Wotlk Era or Wotlk Pservers if Blizzard doesn’t open Wotlk Era.

Uniting 10 and 25 man in one ID was a terrible idea. There was a reason for 10man to be a easier version of the 25man dungeon.

More forgettable than Naxx? lol. The entry raids in WOTLK is the definition of boring.
