I have same Issus when I have a lot of melee dps
The damage of Prot Warriors was lowered drastically to avoid them being top meta DPS for one part of the game that was designed to let them be it. The lowered damage was never compensated by increased aggro. So yes, it’s natural that you struggle to maintain aggro as a Prot Warrior.
Same issue, I just left prot behind coz of low threat generation, I can’t hold aggro with DH or mage in dung group. Hope there will be some buffs.
Yeah you’re not alone. I have to fight like crazy to keep aggro and basically use taunt on CD to grab mobs constantly running off. I haven’t experienced threat generation this weak since… since forever i think, didn’t tank in Burning Crusade/Vanilla though.
I’m all for having threat levels matter a bit more than they have in the past where you just dropped a thunder clap and you’ve permanently got aggro for the entire fight but this is kinda ridiculous. Having to clap multiple times and dumping rage on revenge like a maniac just to barely grab aggro and then grab mobs with taunt constantly just feels awful. Tank threat generation needs a buff for sure.
Tank threat generation is fine. Other tanks have no such issue. It’s only Prot Warriors that have it as their threat generated was directly tied to their damage done. The damage done was lowered and no threat increase was given, so of course, their threat is now bad.
Warrior, in general, is a trash class now in anything, save for organised PvP, this was brought up multiple times during Beta that the class needed help. This was ignored except to give a few changes that improved nothing and a massive Prot change that actively made them worse in order to avoid making them meta like they were in BfA. Completely disregarding the fact that Prot Warriors became meta in M+ as the mechanics of those favoured the mechanics of Prot Warriors. That content has now been changed to be more equal for all tanks and Prot Warriors have been heavily nerfed, essentially nerfing them twice to the point where they as tanks rank dead last.
And how did the result of all our feedback pan out? Arms got a 6% blanket damage increase after it went live >.<

I’ve been doing Mythic dungeons, i’m geared to 177 now and I do still have a challenge keeping aggro from equally geared players. It is definitely weak.
It needs some buffs somewhere, I feel mega squishy even with 50% damage reduction bubble popped in mythics. The only downside is there is often not enough rage to keep this ability up and naturally you find yourself struggling for things to use as everything is so heavily dependant on rage.
I understand there are strong defensive abilities however they are on cooldown often.
Some mobs, dependant on which mythic dungeon it is, can cause me to pop every single defensive cooldown I have including my trinket.
40% damage reduction - Shield wall
30% damage reduction - Demoralizing Shout
34% damage reduction - Block
50% damage Reduction - Ignore Pain
Having to pop a total of 154% damage reduction to stay alive on some mobs is ridiculous. Not to also mention, Victory Rush is the most pointless ability on the toolbar unless you’re lucky enough to get a kill off… Which is rare.
Additionally I can’t see the benefit of using shield block compared to using ignore pain as it only works defending against melee and additionally, only blocks 34% compared to 50%. It’s only any good when stacking both together against a big melee mob. Even then you find there’s usually a strong spellcaster in amongst the mob which required you to use spell reflection but we all know how useless that is with a 5 second usage on a 25 second cooldown. Not exactly much utility against casters.
it just feels like it is at a huge disadvantage compared to other classes which can just pop insta heals all the time as a tank. The ability to heal on a tank is a broken mechanic and takes away the responsibility of the healer to pick up the tanks shortfalls and mistakes.
Well that sucks. I guess i’m gonna be leveling up my blood DK and going arms/fury then
I’m sitting at 180 now and when there are other melee DPS at 170 or above it’s just a mess. I’ve resorted to inviting only ranged DPS to make it easier to notice and grab mobs that are peeling off me and also giving my taunt more time to come off CD as it takes longer for the mobs to reach ranged when they are permanently slowed by Thunder Clap.
