forget dps rotation, im talking about utility defensives and cc
on the top of my head
i lost
- Ginvi 40% dmg reduction (mov speed was nerfed just before too)
- Mirror images 25% dmg reduction
- Displacement heal 20% hp
- Ice Block Heal 80% of your hp
- Tempest Barrier (yes, its a passive, its still a shield lost, and even tho it was small, it was also a good antidispell trick)
- Mass Barrier
- Shifting Power (idc we got a few cooldown reduction talents, its not the same as literally getting 15seconds off w/e spell u wantet, like, COUNTERSPELL, or blink/shimmer, not to mention using it repetadly would get u block and other things back faster than the passives we have for sure
- Blast Wave
- Mass polymorph was tied to a choice node with ring of frost making it impossible to have them
- Slow, the literal only spell to kite enemy players with atm and slow them down if you are not frost, u don’t have cone of cold because it became choice not with icy nova, and that just provides better utility for when its needed considering the range of use
- While its not pruning i wanna mention that the game is literally forcing you to take Arcane Pulse, and that replaces Arcane Explosion
- Presence of mind and Slipstream (able to cast evo/missiles while moving) have become a choice node too
- it might sound like a dumb complain, but we lost frostbolt, which i personally still used alot in pvp, considering slow could only affect one target, and it was a lower risk cast if interrupts were being thrown around
- same goes with Fireblast, excellt grounding totem killer, among other small utilities..
- Add the fact that temporal shield was removed just before, and alter time is now being affected by healing reductions…
Now my point is not really crying of how many things we lost, but the fact that facing other classes multiple times a day for years, i don’t feel any difference facing any of them, they all feel like they are exactly the same
u still get cced to the ground, gap closed to the ground, shut down your casting and your gameplay, while we lost 80% of our survaiability, to put it blunty, atm nobody will le tu cast 2 seconds of arcane surge to start your rotation, and the funniest part is that often letting u cast it would be even better for them, because if they shut you down AFTER casting it u literally have no damage to fight… but because they have so many options they do not care and just prevent you from playing all together
hunters and rogues are just 2 extreme examples of this because u simply have no win condition vs them pretty much…
other classes can do this too, even warriors can literally hold u hostage for quite some time until u finally get the opportunity to cast and then u can prevail
so my question was, what exactly did rogues or some of other classes even lose
as of now i see rogues opening the same way, stunlock and even garrotte, if u do not trinket or block the opener u are already dead
if u trinket or block it they can reset the fight in multiple ways, flat out vanish, smoke and stealth, blind, or even just sprint and run, how u gonna stop them, no slow, no frostbolt u wanna blink into them to nova?
Hunters r the same thing, same as tww and dragonflight, u cannot win a fight with a hunter if he isn’t throwing
he does more dmg than u, has better ccs than u, cannot be interrupted, and literally has opener every single time too… he can stun me or trap me FROM STEALTH and it wont break, why can’t i cast sheep from stealth? because it would be broken ofc, why can he do this tho?
if i could cast nonstop vs a hunter and he had no interrupts and ccs, he would still beat me on the principle that he just does more single target dmg than me… so why do i have to go though 2 stuns a silence and interrupts, plus feign death just to cast at all? what exactly did hunter lose, one knockback, and ? thats it ?
seems to me like other classes lost a dps spell that was in their rotation making them essentially easier to play, mage on the other hand lost a bunch of tools he had and gained an extra dps spell in its rotation… is it me or mage developer is playing a diff game than all other devs ?
i had this impression even when snowdrift was added to the game
while every mage out there kept crying about “we should have deepfreeze” i was among the few that complained that stuns are toxic and lazy and i wouldn’t want them for my class, because anyone can press stun burst macro and 123 his rotation into a helpless target, and thats how all other classes are, save few specs, all other classes feel like they are a reskin of eachother with different animation and just press stun and their dps rotation into a training dummy
warrior, bolt burst
pala, hoj burst
dh, nova burst
dk, asfissiate burst
feral and rogue just stun and dps
hunter stun burst
and so on, i don’t find this enjoyable, i find this lazy and boring, anyone can setup their gameplay if the only counterplay the enemy has is a trinket or a 5 minute cd like block/bubble
but then the mage dev came up with Snowdrift, and snowdrift is one interesting way to think of stuns
it requires close range, in contrast with the class identity
it has a time delay
it breaks on dmg so u cannot exactly setup it up with poly or db
and its very telegraphed, so that people in its are acan react with their respective counters like bladestorm, cloak of shadow and so on
Now, i do not play frost, im not sure i like the class fantasy or how it playus out, but this is a somewhat healthy way to introduce stun to a class
i still believe the game is better off with fewer stuns and more ccs that have conditions to break on dmg, cast time, or limited to certain situations… but the mage dev at least proved to me he gives a F about not making mage a brainless killing machine (tho it happens sometimes, it just cannot always be avoided, like in the glass cannon incident)
sorry for the wall of text, and the TLDR is mage just suffers alot from pruning this season
lastly, let me tell u one thing because i know its coming, im not bby all means saying mage is strong or weak, its neither, it feels more strong than weak, im complainign about its design, if they removed all my spells but arcane explosion and arcane explosion was oneshotting everyone id complain of its design too. i want a class thats fun to play, and the beauty of mage slightly died with this pruning, regardless of the fact that blastwave might have been broken or not
its good when your class has options different playstyle and requires you to think
having the class sitting inside teamfights and spam aoe just because its strong is bad to me, u should be able to make a choice if u wanna defend, teamfight, grab a flag and so on, it doesn’t feel interesting to be strong and have no options to play around your dead kit
if i wanna steal a base and i know a rogue or hunter is on it, whats the plan? even knowing they are there and what spells they gonna use i still don’t win if they don’t massively F up.
thats just bad design.
