That’s difficult when you cannot easily see who is a roleplayer and who is not. Having to rely on external sites and planning is not everybody’s cup of tea. It’s even worse when you’re a new roleplayer, as you’ll have next to nothing to go by.
Which one is the US server again? Landroval? Laurelin is the one I roleplayed on until it dwindled and diminished, and the glory of the elder days was past.
I’ve always found it a bit weird for how much the original WoW focused on RPG mechanics and setting up the world as very RP friendly (even in presentation like in guidebooks), RP itself has always felt like it’s been barely tolerated and very much bottom of the line in priorities or even acknowledgement.
And that’s what so strange, because Classic and original WoW in terms of mechanics and presentation was set up to basically be perfect for RP. Alot of attention to world details and ways to immerse you into your character. And as I said, alot of the promo material and guidebooks also pushed this. And later WoW has continued alot of the trends with the presentation of the world making it ripe for roleplay.
Yet the average playerbase has a near hostile view of RP itself and Blizzard seem to not even think it exists.
Uh, no. IDK how TRP3’s scanner deals with phasing issues, but it’s still very convenient to check a zone and see if people are RPing there. Without it, I guarantee people’s convenience just sequesters them into public Discord groups to find RP rather than fly over a zone on the off-chance there’s ppl. Or confines them to larger cities e.g. Stormwind just because you likely won’t find any RP anywhere else than already used large RP centers.
And if they did so, it would have already been announced. This would be a huge RP / immersion change that would be marketed if it were in the works. They could do this in TWW with Warbands and make it y’know, more warband-y.
Hopefully this is just a PTR thing, but this is also something that Blizzard should urgently respond to and until they don’t, players should continue to make a big stink about it, as otherwise they might go ahead with this change on live servers as well and then it’ll be too late.
I’m not sure how you can just say this so brazenly. How do you think communities formed?
The absolutely Barest Minimum effort, still mildly inconvenient, for a function that should be a Menu Option, and continues to annoy the heck out of me that it isn’t.
If this is implemented, one of the things that may help is “saving” all the profiles by assigning a tag to them. The addon tends to wipe the profiles of other roleplayers that don’t have a tag such as “friend” or “enemy” assigned to them, but it stores them when they do. Even if the character belonging to the profile hasn’t been seen for a while.
-… then it is just a matter of tagging 100s of profiles.
While I enjoyed the story, the damage it did to the RP scene is wild. Even today one of the most common questions to ask if you find an RP guild is “What timeline are we in?”
