FFXIV doesn’t have chat bubbles either. Players add them with a plugin ![]()
This made me laugh out loud because it’s so true. All of the useful tools WoW has are community made, and somehow other MMOs are still WORSE than WoW (FFXIV doesn’t even have chat bubbles, but I heard those are coming next expac)
heck, I got got, you beat me to it!
GW2 didn’t have basic chair functionality for 10 years.

Or addons, not to mention the limited number of instances and a lot of mob infested open world maps.
RP still survived.
Imagine how sore those backs must be after standing for 3650 days straight, give or take a few.
GW2 also straight up just had character models emote infront of a still image as “cutscenes” for the first years because they didnt finish them from the WIP alpha.
It’s still there today if you play the original 1-50 story.
Id really like to see where because everywhere I looked in GW2 ? RP is dead as can be.
Oh, huh. Fair enough.
Still, SWTOR didn’t even have that, I think mods were outright impossible because Lol, EA, Lmao or something like that.
Swtor is from that fun era when EA was very anti-mod. I’m talking “trying to bring Mass Effect 3 players to court for modding their singleplayer game” type of stuff.
Will wait until next week if something changes, or not. Or if Blizzzard has a statement for that.
Until then - Keep calm and carry on. Make a backup of your profiles, just in case.
We need to be as loud as possible and make ourselves heard about this. Blizzard isn’t going to listen to feedback that we don’t even give if we keep our heads down and say nothing
There is some on the American “RP” server, but it’s hit and miss. GW2 characters do have last names, though…
… which leads to another issue arising with the throttling of RP addons; many of our avatars don’t have a roleplay avatar name, or a name that is the same as their IC name. My death knight, for example, is called Chuckleteeth OOC. It’d be really strange to see that name appear in my emotes rather than her IC name… or worse names.
Imagine RPing a serious scene with someone whose avatar is called Cornflaekes or whatever. It can happen.
It’s one thing being vocal about changes. And the other thing doomposting and fearmongering everywhere, here and in RP discords, shouting out that they have been, again, ‘unjustly’ affected by something Blizzard did not clarify until now.
Could they do better in terms of communication? Absolutely.
Throwing panic around and calling that RP is doomed? Maybe not do that.
That’s where I play and I still have not found anything.
Don’t ask how I ended up on the american server rather than the EU one.
I liked playing as an Asura in GW2 but I’ve been told straight up horror stories about their RP scene.
Like, a certain caravan times a hundred.
So we should just wait until after Blizzard makes our hobby significantly worse to complain about it, rather than tell them in advance that a change is bad? You know, the exact thing the PTR is supposed to do, let them get feedback on changes before they go to Live.
it is about as gatekeeping as a Character Sheet is gatekeeping you from playing Dungeon and Dragons.
Can you do it without one? Sure, absolutely. Knock yourself out.
But after your 365th session, however, many hundred hours into a game or Roleplay, it is undeniably useful to have a sheet for quick reference, to keep notes of appearances and process information in a quick and easy way.
And that’s really what it is all about, the process of information from me to you, especially in a hobby, where things should be fun and convenient, after a long day of the over-world.
So a step back on that is a huge blow, whether you have IMAGINATION or not.
There is also a stark difference of never having it in the first place & having it, getting used to it and then losing it.
The games which never had RP addons found other systems instead. To use Swtor as an example, it is extremely common for RP guilds to have stat sheets recorded on the community discords or guild websites. It’s basically a staple of the community. Its rare to find a guild that doesnt have this.
It’s this weird low-grade masochism some people carry when it comes to matters that are supposed to be hobbies.
And I’m not sure if it’s just there for an “Hah hah” moment to pat themselves on the back.
Be as it may, there’s already the complaint the RP Community sometimes doesn’t feel alive as it should be and then they actively wager against things making it more convenient to interact
Oh, I wonder if this is why I recently noticed an old friend whose profile I had tagged had a weird bug, where apparently the profile had been seen recently even though I know the person hasn’t logged on in years. And I was surprised to even see the profile in the directory, but I guess that was because of the tag.
Ideally yes, but as far as I’ve understood, the point is to stop the frequent calls to the function so even if you did pay the people who made it, the problem wouldn’t be ‘solved’ for Blizzard.
Ideally, people wouldn’t see character names anyway. Perhaps if this ends up happening, the best way to RP is to remove character names altogether for immersion, as you wouldn’t know the others’ names anyway.
This is also true. I use TRP3 to keep track of items or scars or other important notes, and ditto for other characters I’ve met too. Sure, I could do that as well with a personal file, but starting to tab out or try and keep it organized / easily searchable will become obnoxious to the point I’d just not bother with it.
