PSA: TRP3 is affected by a bug on the PTR, but it's getting fixed

I feel like this is a word-for-word monologue of what goes on inside my mind :flushed:

Player housing?! Being able to collect cute little trinkets and display lore-accurate furniture for my make-believe barbie dolls?! I would cry from happiness.

The weaker version of that was the garrisons. Good luck finding RP in the wilds while everyone has their personal phase. Seriously, more than one MMORPG suffered from it already.

Regarding the main topic,

I’ve been RPing on WoW for a little longer than 2 years, on Argent Dawn, Wyrmrest Accord and Moonguard (US friends, I know) and with the angle of a player being relatively new compared to a vast majority of the RP community, I’ve only experienced RP with the predominance of TRP, Listener and Elephant. These absolutely and unequivocally improve the RP experience and while I’m sure that some of the Old Guard can do without them, if I’m to use myself as an example, I think newer players will have a very low tolerance to losing them.

For me, my main worry is the loss of a functioning RP community rather than my own isolated group. RP can be divided between D&D style campaign RP that is more structured, and free-flowing which I’ll categorize as ‘Walk-up’ style for ease. ‘Walk-up’ style needs a certain community size and base to survive and flourish. I witnessed Wyrmrest Accord cease to function at the start of my time RPing due to the SA allegations in Blizzard Offices. My worry is that the loss of these addons will inevitably drive away some players and stifle growth of the server as people will struggle to get involved, and frankly AD doesn’t have a large enough population to safely blunt the impact of this in my opinion.

There is more to be said of WoW as a game generally being unintuitive, and the loss of DBM being a massive detraction for supporting players who just don’t have years of content experience under their belt.

Personally, my biggest concern is actually the potential for a spam-filter that may mess up the Emote-splitter addon, as I love writing in detail, and if my writing style is going to get curbed by a filter that effects my one-on-one and small group RP, I might just be done with the game as a whole.

Just very broadly my two-cents^^

What if I want to RP making soup inside a house?

Yea, when talking outside of the RP’er lense, addons and tools like DBM are massive accessibility improvements.

I’m built a lil’ different and my robot-aah brain has some sensory processing issues, way more minor than anything actually worth mentioning, but I think I speak for a lot of people when I say addons really do help in taking in the information put on screen overall.

Seconded, even if TRP is seen as a convenience item… It is convenience exactly as that which makes it all in all more approachable and supported.

And isn’t that like exactly the cornerstone to it all? The fact you don’t have to dance like a circus monkey to do something you like?

Especially in the new ERA of WoW, these bosses have 9 garillion things going on at once.

Will still forever disagree with this. Based on experience in SWTOR, for starters, but also very different types/styles of RP. C’est la vie, if we ever get it or not is entirely down to Dev design heh.

Many MMOS have outright killed this with mega-servers or other implementations. We’ve already seen it happen slightly several times with sharding every now and then in Stormwind.

WoW really is one of the few games that generally allows for casual random roleplay rather than planned or guild-related, and I want it to remain that way.

Imo World RP in WoW (‘the wilds’) is long dead.
In my 2 and a bit years, I’ve had 1 interaction that was genuine World RP, and it turned out to be a Stalker who found me and harassed me for about 3 weeks due to some OOC drama.

I can’t believe someone can be this incredibly wrong.

Indeed player housing killed SWTOR RP, majorly. That is true. There are only RP events inside of player housing and if there is RP somewhere else, you wont find any. Kass night for example. It used to be filled to the brim with roleplayers, nowdays. Theres like 5 people.

That just sounds like you’re looking in the wrong places, I get RP almost every night in Duskwood and Orgrimmar, with plenty of other venues if I choose the right time or place to log on (Tuesdays like today are great shopping nights in Dalaran)

Depends on the zone, but it is not uncommon to find alot of roleplay in the wilds if you go to the “hub” of each zone. Or run into people hosting events in the strangest of places.

In my experience with ESO, it’s pretty much exactly what happened - overworld RP vanished for the large part and everything became a part of ‘in groups’ that were often not particularly open to new people (including ‘new’ in the sense of ‘not part of this group yet’), and I fear that’s exactly what’ll also happen if TRP goes this particular way of the dodo

This isn’t an issue for people that have their group of people they RP with for as long as that group continues to function and actively RP, it becomes a massive problem the second that something happens to that group - and for everyone not already a part of a group, of course!

Exactly.

I think the real thing at risk here is the larger scale of RP such as community events and city RP. Phased RP will continue to exist, but frankly you can do that on any server.

I think you might’ve misunderstood me. I wasn’t classifying RP in Hubs as ‘World RP’. For me, that term has always meant RP that occurs beyond the normal hubs. Something similar to Duskwood, though in that sense Duskwood seems more akin to an anomaly or remainder from something that was far more expansive.

I guess, having played when Strongholds and Guild Flagships were well established, my own experience is simply different.

What killed it for me, my guild and a lot of others it seemed, was the Expansion shunting the setting story sideways and forcing a timeskip. I can’t attest to how things were pre-SH, so, fair enough.

I just feel that the people who would jump to Housing RP only, if that were feasible, are not the sort of players who are currently in Open World/City RP in the first place. You can’t detract from what isn’t there anyway, y’know?

With how certain people on the realm are, it might as well be the death to the addon to them. :dracthyr_nod:

ESO housing turned all of the [open world tavern rp] into [my personal/custom built tavern] rp which was the exact same but with the added limit that you couldn’t join in if there were already 8 other people doing [tavern rp] in [custom tavern] (the now default hub)
