PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Humour is subjective after all

It’s crazy that Blizzard are removing /silly and /flirt lines.

It’s even crazier that Blizzard have been brick walls for employees trying to argue for ways to tangibly improve the workplace culture there and hired union-buster firms in response to it!

Did they remove then orc’s /whoa?

The game is 15+ years old and you bet there is a lot of similar stuff in quests, dialogue, achievements… the list goes on. What they’ve essentially done now is opened Pandora’s box, and it will get worse and worse as time goes on.

This is like watching a friend who you’ve known and shared good times with for 10+ years slowly lose themselves to drugs, despair and madness, labeling themselves and shoving their agenda and world views into a game played by millions. If you tell them and try and explain that what they are doing is wrong, you will get attacked because their arrogance and ego is more important. (see some of the latest Dev tweets, they had me wheezing)

Despite customers paying them for doing their job, they also expect customers to listen to their every whim and if you disagree with them you get called out and then comes the usual. It’s the ‘gamers’, it’s bigotry, etc. etc.

Dear God, if things like this will actually continue and any unfunny sekx xDDD joke, reference, painting, artwork, references get changed or removed then they’ll be busy for a while - and in the end they would still have accomplished nothing because the game remains in a pathetic state. Granted, it will be even more pathetic if all these changes go through. Like, it probably wont be long now until the in-game female goblin pinup calendar gets removed.

It’s so damn tiresome.

Huh, they also changed WotLK’s Sons of Hodir dailies’ names.

Blowing Hodir's Horn is now Hodir's Call.
Mounting Hodir's Helm is now Placing Hodir's Helm.
Raising Hodir's Spear is now Forging Hodir's Spear.
Thrusting Hodir's Spear is now How to Slay Your Dragon.
Polishing the Helm is now A Viscious Cleaning.
Jormuttar is Soo Fat... is now Culling Jorcuttar.
The sole NPC change, Jormuttar has also been renamed Jorcuttar in line with the quest above.

This is just getting rediculous!

It’s honestly heart breaking for me. I’ve been playing for 14 years straight and to see these new Devs come in with their woke mindsets who are retroactively changing the game. I cannot put into words how upset I am at all the changes and what hurts even more is knowing I cannot do or say anything that would stop these changes, they don’t even read the EU posts - we mean nothing to them.

The beginning of all this was when they changed the Bear animation. That might seem like a random point but the old Bear animations were very stylised and not necessarily based off the real life movements of a Bear but they changed them to reflect real life. It was from then they started making these changes, like black skinned Blood Elves, I could understand Dark Red but not the human shade. Or when they removed the lines of Sylvanas being called a B*tch, when honestly she should have been called it - and I say this as a loyalist, it’s a defining trait of hers.

These people clearly do not love World of Warcraft, they seem to dislike it and are changing the game into something it’s not. I do not respect or support these Devs, dealing with sexual harassment in the work place does not mean change the entire game. This is why the game is going to hell because they’re not hiring long time fans.

anyways I’m a bit baffled by the fact that they’re removing these dumb jokes/slash flirt lines, personally I’d say they’re far less of an issue than oh, I don’t know, like every other quest featuring Blood Elves from Cataclysm being “lol blood elf men look like women!!!”

WoW was full of cringe for a damn long time and I was just waiting for the political discourse of the day to catch up. This started roughly around the time metzen or someone played deathwing’s death cinematic and their daughter went “why are they wearing bikinis” about the dragon aspects. Cue Legion and Sylvanas’ more sensible outfit.

The trimming of questionables was going to be a slow evolution that was going to happen eventually just by the passage of time and norms but they’re going hard with it to smooth out the edges alongside the cosbyite scandal train.

Nuffin’. They’re human coloured because magic and so are humans so that kind of throws out all the arguments about ethnicity and natual skintones for pixie people.

They also spend all year in the sun.

This was a good thing, and it’s incredibly cringe to see people still salty about it.

You see, dark brown skin is political and icky and so needs serious justification before it is to be added.

Standard Scandinavian pink is default and always fine no matter the species.

It looks poorly painted on but that’s about it.

I resent that. We’re corpse white.

Story of WoW’s life.

Most of the current changes (some are more questionable / subjectively more harmless etc) are good and it’s incredibly cringe to see people having actual meltdowns over it.

Whatever happened to only wanting war in Warcraft, right? Oh wait.

Honestly the most annoying thing about these changes is not so much them themselves, but the 500 posts/threads/comments all over the forums and fansites daily from Gamers™ going on long rants or unfunny jokes about how this is the fault of “Woke/leftists/Sjws/feminism/etc” and why the game is dying and so on.

Some of the changes have been good. Either really good or just good. Some have been weirder/not so good, and people can criticize and discuss and disagree with those. But they were not detrimental to the game and ultimately impacts very little of the gameplay itself & its world, but might make some or alot of people happier and comfortable playing it.

The game itself is having issues, alot of it. Many people, myself included, find the writing awful and alot of the game design choices and game-play to be pretty bad too. That is something they need to work on and hopefully do. It doesn’t mean that they can’t also do these little changes here and there if they see fit, both the good ones and more weirder. It isnt mutually exclusive. Nor are these changes why WoW is suffering, it’s because of the larger issues with the game.

Then there is the issue with the company culture at Blizzard that has clearly been there since its very beginning and infested it. Leading to a unsafe workplace of abuse and discrimination. This is something also that needs to be changed, and is changing hopefully. But it has tainted alot of the image of WoW knowing that this has been going on since its very beginnings.

The company culture is also one that is a problem with the WoW community. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. As a whole & generally speaking, WoW’s community is one of the worst in gaming. It is incredibly toxic and shares alot of the traits that the company does/did when it comes to sexism/racism/homophobia and so on.
