PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 1)

More murder hobo who pawns off kelthuzad’s phylactery for 5 gold, less champyun of azuroff

Which (s)he is, as proven over the course of WoW’s lifetime.

Great for that MMO, but this is WoW and not whatever that MMO is, so I don’t really care about the nuance given to whatever quest in another game, tbf.

Also, if adding an option to report this one NPC, only opens a can of worms where they’ll have to add a zillion options to other quests because people agree/disagree/want whatever choice.

I am fine with how they set it down now.

I fail to see how this is bad. Non linear quests? Different quest paths, outcomes and ways to approach them? Sign me the hell up.

Lord knows there are way too many cases where the game turns your character into an actual bycicle brain who will do anything for a new pair of Yeezys.

Yes, because Blizzard did such a fine job with 2 sides in one questline on the Horde. (Loyalists vs Rebels)

They didn’t. Doesn’t mean they should throw the baby out with the bathwater. Learn from their mistakes, iterate and improve is what they should do, instead of canning a feature forever if it didn’t fly the first time.

Besides, choosing whether to help or grass on some random kirin tor dude with gnolls isn’t exactly on the same level as committing treason against your faction.

Killing gnolls is pog

Personally I blame the uprise in twitter concern trolling (because that’s all it is) on the popularity of Critical Role

Re. Kirin Tor dude? Based and unhinged as all Kirin Tor are

Get back to being fools… lesser mages :ok_hand:

It’s actually a bit funny over how a Kirin Tor NPC gives you a quest to mass murder a species and then another Kirin Tor RPer jumps up to defend that.

I don’t even use Twitter, nor watch or care about Critical Role.

Order of the Stick raised this particular objection to murderhobo adventurer mentality years before CR existed.

I don’t think anyone’s asking for or expecting a labyrinth of branching paths with far-reaching consequences that would put Bioware games to shame.

They could just put in occasional quests that feature choices. For example, Detry Hornswald could send the player to a Kirin Tor higher-up at the end of the quest chain and ask them to inform this superior that he completed his assignment.
When you get to this higher-up, you could tell them that Detry did his job well or you could tell them that Detry is a madman killing gnolls for the sake of killing gnolls.
Either option completes the quest and the only difference between them is a slight change in dialogue upon quest completion.

Nothing more than that is necessary. That’s all the agency that is needed for a minor storyline like this. These binary decisions with negligible consequences don’t really mesh with more important storylines - like the Saurfang plot - but they’re perfectly fine as a part of inconsequential sidequests.

Now that takes me back.

This has ‘teleports behind you “Heh… Nothing personal, kid”’ energy.

Good, fun is good :stuck_out_tongue:

But it’s actually just a happy coincidence, I’d have liked it if the NPC was a representative of some other group. If an organisation is big enough, there’s bound to be some strange people in its ranks, and it’s never going to be squaky clean. But an SI:7 operative, an Earthen Ring zealot, or Cenarion Circle druid obsessed with their own twisted notion of balance? Yeah absolutely.

If anything, I think the Kirin Tor is sadly overrepresented. Should be more mage groups out there in the lore that the writers should draw upon. Ah well.

I didn’t say fun, just funny!

Yeah, about that…

Why are we making a deal out of genocide quest number 30? again?
we have culled the numbers of species for following reasons:
they are annoying.
They have something we want
they might have something we want
they are to close for comfort
they exist and we hate them.
they are in the way
they make something we want
they can be made into something we want
they are an eyesore
We need one scale/strain of hair/ fang/ toe-nail.

This not to mention the multitude of rare spawn who are just animals minding their own business or the neutral rares in pandaria who are just chilling.

The most competent Kirin Tor mage

I mean, considering the torture quest back in Wrath, the Kirin Tor certainly has some three letter agency energies since then.
