PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 2)

Maybe one of these days Blizz writers will not trample through a sensitive topic, one that arguably would have been better Never Mentioned Again, with awful, creepy quest design.

Today is not that day…

And what exactly are you referring to?

Probably the Chromie ones: https://twitter.com/Portergauge/status/1668662286641430528

The Amber Kearnen one is more or less whatever, the real problematic quest is Chromie forcing you to keep Alexstrasza locked up to get r-worded.

Remember: there was no need for this quest specifically, if you wanted a ‘haha whoopsie some artefact went missing’ you could’ve literally picked anything else that doesn’t deal with but muh timelines so you gotta keep getting r-worded, for the timelines!!!

It’s compounded by Chromie handing you the quest too, as the game’s one of the few trans characters that can very easily be read as ‘the transes are trying to harm women!!!’ type of narrative.

Bonus points for having alex (begrudgingly) approve of it.

They have truly maxed out the tonedeaf stat

Yeah between first having you kill a cis woman and now this, :skull: what are the writers doing

What a thing to wake up to. God damn this was not necessary in any way and a big yikes in the lore they somehow had to dredge up again after the war crimes novel.

Disturbing and sad.

Player is laden with guilt over so much. The venthyr will have the biggest party when they kick the bucket.

They just can’t go a single week without doing something controversial.

I really thought that at this point everyone, including blizzard, knew that the best way to address that (incredibly weirdly frequent) aspect of dragon lore was to uh

y’know

not.
just do not.

Apparently I was wrong.

Like I said, they could’ve just left it at the confrontation of the old horde’s deeds in war crimes but noo… it was somehow absolutely vital that the player enable the abuse of a big lore character.

Nobody:
Blizzard: “You know what? Let’s revisit the most reviled part of dragon lore and make the player complicit in it

I don’t see the problem with this, tbf…

Its not like people will suddenly be able to buy more then they release each month eitherway.

And people who don’t want to spend real money on it can buy those same things with tenders later on anyways.

So its not like people will get something special and unavailable for others from it, unlike PvPers with their Gladiator mounts, or people who bought CE’s, etc.

So lets not go complain because its easy and fun to do when it will have literally no impact on the game in any major or minor way whatsoever. (unless you can’t handle people getting things with real life money)

Bzzt, incorrect.

Blizzard set the rate of the earnable tenders and the prices.

They could have absolutely set it so that the prices are lower for items (say, 300 per mount, instead of 800-900) or that people could earn more tendies (eg. 2000 instead of 1000), but they didn’t. They control all the knobs, along with a rotating set of items (instead of, say, a batch of items that slowly increases in size over time with each new month).

Just on the current rotation I lacked enough tendies to buy everything that struck my fancy. While I personally wouldn’t pay real money to fix that, other people will. They’ve created an artificial scarcity and are selling you the solution to help you combat your FOMO vibes. Stuff might rotate back around again, but how long will you have to wait? They don’t tell you. It could be years! “Better buy it now, just in case. It’s just a couple of quid…” is insidious for a game where you’re paying a sub and have to buy the expac.

That’s not good. In fact it sucks. It’s a bad consumer practice that people should rightly point at and go “yeah, this is bad”, because DF was meant to be Blizzard’s ‘redemption’ expansion, yet we’re already seeing them slip back into old bad stuff.

Yeah no disagree. While I think this won’t really affect me, it’s absolutely a gross addition to something that is already a very unsubtle manipulation to make sure people stay subbed every month, esp since it has thus far existed as a very casual thing that we know will take years to get everything out of.

Adding a pricetag to skip that is icky ah and blizzard’s marketing department does not need to be defended
