I saw someone describe Xal’s model as “A third rate e-girl with fifth rate feet”. Which gave me a sensible chuckle.
I think in general the Mastermind/Puppetmaster archetype needs to be left alone for at the very least 2 expansions. I maintain what I said that WoW really just needs its own version of Sundowner. No tragic backstory, an individual that just loves causing chaos and war wherever they go because that’s what they’re best at.
DF’s Primalists were new but even less than skin deep in terms of depth. Their goal isn’t the issue or even me falling for the usual trappings of cynical in-depth analysis of it and how they intend to implement it should they get their way but they simply had no good character attached to them. Guys, we’ve enjoyed and accepted enemy factions with a single goal at their core but it is the characters within them that made the faction in question glow.
Idk man, I’m sure it’s all more complex than I’m making it but they did it with Pandaria, creating the new while reminding you of the old with almost all new cast. Have all the people who worked on it already left the company or what?
So, Fyrakk?
Fyrakk was good, IMO.
It was just the massive gaps and ‘But Why?’ in surrounding characters that felt like some key Fleshing Out got missed.
Guess we need a new Firelord too.
Again.
I’m fine with Fyrakk, it’s the expansion he’s surrounded with that does him a disservice. Quite frankly I expected the guy to be like Starscream originally, always trying to get one over his siblings.
This is probably because of Blizzard being unable to tell a proper story in-game rather than the fault of the character. Fyrakk is pretty competitive and argumentative (especially against Iridikron) in War of the Scaleborn.
I quite agree on the first part and I lament the second because I didn’t read that book nor do I think things have to be this way to decently flesh him out in the game.
Ah well.
It is sad that they don’t add these kind of little tidbits of information to the game. I remember watching the Alexstrasza and Vyranoth cutscene only recently where it references issues that are explained in the book - and I don’t even think it’s the first time either (War Crimes comes to mind to explain how we got from MoP > WoD)
Our shaman helped him become Firelord, and this ungrateful mf’er turns on us. Smh.
Unironically they should link short stories to the launcher like they used to. At least then it’s not going to slip under the radar, it’s pretty much a “hey dummy check out this story”.
I understand mmo’s are a jank way to tell a narrative, but there are good ways to link out of game material to the players other than some esotoric side of a website.
It’s hard to even say why they wouldn’t do this. Some of the short stories that came out recently (the Anduin one comes to mind) have been some enjoyable reading.
Evidently they care a lot about their story which is why a lot of new cinematic tech came out in Dragonflight/end of Shadowlands, but at the same time sometimes it feels like all they really want from players is to just go and hit endgame as fast as possible and do raids/m+/pvp/whatever, which is why a lot of the background of the important stuff is left out of the game.
I just hope they’re going to improve this going forwards, i.e. the short stories that released before TWW.
Fyrakk is the new (Shadow-)Firelord since he inhaled the essence of the last Firelord, I suppose?
As much as it’s implied that his soul (or anima, essence, whatever) went off into the Firelands, the title of Firelord seems to be a matter of conquest rather than heritage.
That said he was every bit as violent and reckless as fire elementals, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see Fyrakk in a fiery crown some day.
This is a big part of what turns me away from the recent BBEGs. If you think of Illidan, Arthas, Deathwing, there’s a wealth of backstory attached to them that explains who they are, why they’re doing thing and what their goal is. They’re compelling because they have a story.
Where as the recent ones have been rushed out the gate with the promise/hope of the who/why/what being filled in later. The mysterious figure with mysterious motivations deal only lasts so long before it starts looking like an empty character acting at random for no reason. That why Xal triggers my jailor PTSD.
And the problem with trying to wrap up story arcs within a singular expac, too. Sure, that was true of Illidan and Arthas, but they had prior establishment that most(?) people who were invested in Warcraft knew about.
Not so any of the new ones. Garrosh maybe gets a pass, because he’d been built up over time?
Garry is the best Warchief Azeroth never had and they did him dirty😩
We were denied a longer term Megatron style figure, and that does suck
So I’d been thinking about wether I want my Highborne, Nightborne or future Dracthyr Mage to wear this set, but I just cannot shake this feeling that the HD T2 set just screams Nightborne. Aside from all the purple, the crystallized Managems and the Ancient Mana Gem model placed in the middle of the belt just links it perfectly to the Nightborne…
Which also means I can use the Nightborne Heritage set on my warlock lmao
While on the subject of tier 2 remakes, I do hope they’ll one day add the recolored versions aswell!
Because:
Man, I’d want this one aswell!
Also I do hope they’ll eventuall add an antler-only head item from the Stormrage set, because those antlers look fancy as hell!
In my opinion parts of it give Draenei.
I mean, that works aswell… But I always look at sets wether it fits a Night Elf or a Nightborne since those two I have the most classes off and are my favorite races!
Draenei works well to!
