Didn’t Shamans get new Lightning Bolt visuals relatively recently (a few expacs ago)?
Meanwhile Druids are still farting out orange mist with Wraths with the one single update from Green to Orange back in… Mists or whenever.

I dunno, but I’m gonna say it now;
Animations have always been one of WoWs weaker areas, IMO. SO many abilities are just… unremarkable. They’re animated too fast or too 'weak’ly (2H melee swings that look like they’re using a nerf bat) to be what I’d consider good.
Meanwhile, I could probably still name the vast majority of City of Heroes powers, certainly melee ones, just by seeing their attack animation.
I get that having a combat system where attack animations root you in place for the duration of the animation is radically different to what WoW has, but still. It’s daft.
What’s the worst is that there’s a lot of NPC abilities that simply have an interesting look to them one way or another. The entire Primalist kit is something any shaman would die for (or even wonder if joining the Incarnates was worth looking cool while it lasted), monk abilities are often the older the better (glyph of jab is good, but where in tarnation is the long-missed Crane stance?), Sarkareth-style cosmic void would have given some astounding new life to the priests (and no, entropic rift is not enough), shadowflame looks like a wonderful alternative to both normal and fel flames in warlock arsenal (or even mages’ one too, not unlike shadowfrost we’ve already seen in the Legion artifact ability), and all of that is united in one single thing. A set of glyphs or barbershop options like druidic shapes could have allowed us all this and more without any extra efforts, but apparently letting us use old NPC animations will cost us another raid tier…

This is the 4th lightning bolt animation update and, personally, i like it far better than the current one, which always just looked like a gif with a transparent background. You can tell it’s just 4-5 frames in an invisible tube, not nearly wild enough. Frankly, i just wish they’d use the chain lightning animation. Imo the new one is good enough, though I’d prefer it if the missile traveled much faster, like double the speed.
Turning lightning bolt from a direct line to the enemy into arcane missile (blue) is a mistake.
I was convinced that shadowflames were gonna be a customisation option for dracthyr and/or warlock in DF and then it just didn’t happen. I am booboo the fool

During my admittedly brief stint playing a shaman, I rather liked the instant-strike visual of the spell. It brought to mind how actual lightning typically appears. The flashier projectile vibe is a little off the mark.

Real Lightning is just a very spicy line.
They already have the perfect visual, the change is un-needed and unwanted ._.

Does anyone actually have a visual of the new Lightning Bolt then? I check on Wowhead and nothing.
Not a fan of the thick blue smoke, would probably look perfectly fine without it.
I don’t get the reason to do it. Sure, we could use a better animation, but why break the physics and turn a, well, lightning into another projectile as if there aren’t enough of them already, of all sizes and colours?

their problem is that they absolutely cooked with the chain lightning animation and sound from day 1 in warcraft 3 and had nowhere to go from there
it’s perfection and lightning bolt may as well not exist as a spell because of it

stormbringer specs replacement for it, tempest was the best thing to sadly happen to the spell in years
I know it’s magic and all but surely the spell that’s electricity could simply just vaguely behave like electricity?
That animation looks like someone is just launching a load of squiggly ropes through the air.

It looks like the guy that throws toilet paper rolls that are painted blue at people and screaming “lightning bolt”
