Pure DPS classes and essences for other roles

I’m not sure if It’s an issue or a feature but…

My main is a Mage that obviously has 3 dps specs and unlocking Purification Protocol (Mechagon Reputation) for him let me buy The Well of Existence (Mechagon Reputation) for 500 echoes on my Resto Druid alt. To this point everything seems pretty reasonable, yet when it comes to Spirit of Preservation(Rajani Reputation), a healing essence which doesn’t have equivalent for dps spec and which rank 3 is unlocked by hitting revered with Rajani (what I did on my main of course) it shows that i need to unlock it first.

My question is if it is intended to work this way.I don’t believe that discouraging people from rerolling pure dps to tank/healer roles is going to do any good for this community. I am an example of a person who became excited about essences changes enough to try and fill the healing roll in my group of friends but I would really rather not farm the same content again.

Feel free to discuss the topic as I’ve seen a Druid main claiming that he has spent “way more time” to farm other roles essences which makes it unfair for him that people can unlock them on alts for new currency.

It’s intended.

Rajani & Uldum Accord were detailed as working differently for cross-role eligibilty - as opposed to Ankoan/Unshackled & Rustbolt - in the pre-release notes.

From what i’ve read of Blizzard so far it should be a feature, imo that’s a big issue

They intended to make it different for all 8.2 rep as getting one role will give you all 3 but smh they didn’t extend that to other essences, which is bs.

Its all well and good them having it work that way for the mecha/naz essences. But what about the EP essences that are also old content?

Currently you need to get each roles essences to be available for alts which is weird considering all roles are available for the Naz/Mecha essences when you’ve unlocked just one

Lol now dps mains will feel forced to play dps spec on all their alts because they get the best essences. Talk about unintended consequences. Be careful what you wish for.

Wow, I didn’t know it doesn’t work for Eternal Palace essences as well.

Looks like it really was intended, still I hope that consequences in form of forcing people to stay on their farmed roles were not and we will get a quick fix for it.

Yup just hope they’ll realize that allowing your main to get the other essences faster isn’t that bad either and give you all the roles on the vendor once you unlock one r3 essence.

Because i can’t see any reason beside “it’ll allow mains to get their essences faster for their other roles”

I do see some sense in making people farm Eternal Palace, because new players will not be able to get those essences for the first time since noone will do EP, queues will be longer etc. Yet…we shouldn’t be forced to farm older raids in the first place.

What about people who didn’t get ANY rank 3 essences back then, should they still have to farm them if the ones who did get access to BIS for all roles?

At least they nerfed the essence at 8.3 launch but yeah, i agree that it’s a mess

In the current system yes, but if you didn’t farm rep since 8.3 launch you should know that they nerfed the rep requirements by 50% (revered for r3 rather than exalted) so there’s that i guess

Overall this acc wide update won’t change anything for those who never farmed essences, but that’s kinda intended both by blizzard and by the players who requested acc wide essences.

yes  have fun

fun system - encouragiing to come back and play if you stopped.

I somehow understand the requirement to farm all the content once. But once per person not once per role. Why would you be eligible to get rajani rank 3 healer essence if you never hit revered with them on any character.

What they should do is allow you to buy all roles essences from whatever class/spec you want as long as you qualify to buy the one your spec can use.

It’s certainly ill-thought to have Paladin/Druid/Monk be able to buy up all essences, by nature of the class having all roles covered (which is already advantageous in it’s own right). So we should be able to buy the healer ones and tank ones on a dps spec, so we can then unlock it for alts using this new currency system.

Then again, this is Blizzard. This may be the best possible solution we can hope for.

That’s the benefit of being a hybrid tho.

The benefit of being hybrid is to have the ability to switch roles on the fly. Not to skip repeating content. Any design that forces people to do more content for something based on the class they play is broken. In that case they either fill every class with all roles, makes each class have 1 role only. Or they just make it so people have to work the same amount for the same essences, regardless. Otherwise if they are intending to keep punishing people for not being a hybrid class, then we will just see a bunch of Paladins, Druids and Monks everywhere.

Edit To add, I am talking about Rep vendor only. The ones that you have to unlock with every role, regardless of if it’s on one character or not, I have no issue with, but if you have the rep and all it takes it to switch from dps to tank or healer to obtain the other essences. Then Pure dps specs should also be able to buy these essence and not spend the next god knows how long re-farming the rep requirement on a hybrid class to get the essences else where.

Wish i had this sentence in my original post, lul. This sums up all my expectations towards this system. Hope blizzard will hear us.
