Purge vs dispel magic

Hi all
can someone explain me the difference between dispel magic and purge? So my holy priest’s dispel vs my shammies purge?

Then how in this lovely world I can find out what I can purge dispel?

I don’t think there is any. It should dispell pretty much any buff a player can have besides some special ones like weekly bonus event buffs or anniverary xp/rep buff. With mobs it should dispell I think most of their buffs. You would need to experiment and see for yourself if some specific mobs have things that can’t be dispelled. I would assume some bosses might have those. There might be some addons for that also.

The only simillar spell that has some difference is mage’s Spellsteal becasue it not only removes a buff from the target but also gives mage this buff.
