Pushing vs Traditional MMORPG in wow

I can’t find Classic in retail wow, and I don’t want to play classic wow. Things are too easy to get and fast, and what you can only do is push the hardest content or come back to the next mini/expansion.
Questing is boring because it’s too easy usually, and this is worse if you have max level and doing old content, making an alt is a nightmare (as a former alt-a-holic). Anyway for casual players there is enough content to be done, but then again they have to be high quality because they will be very short, and most won’t repeat it.

Anyway, this isn’t ranting, but I see no reason for wow retail to keep players, other than niche game styles (crafting, questing, collectible, etc.), alt-a-holists, pushing, friends-to-play-with, in the face of classic with people struggling together.

Now what I want to ask is, is there truth to this, or am imagining things?
Sure thing, there are other games to play, but I just want to know.
Thanks for your insights!

Yes, leveling is extremely boring in retail.

You’re not imagining it, WoW has always been a theme park MMO in the sense that there’s different rides catered towards different types of players. Neatly separated so they (usually) don’t feel forced into stuff they dislike, and most importantly each ride has to be accessible to it’s target audience. eg leveling has to be accessible to everyone, so it’s difficulty was reduced to :zero:

Each expansion is based on the same template and we barely get “real” new content like M+. It’s just new zones, enemies, stories and new power grinds. (occasional resets keep the game attractive to potential new players).
The replay value of PvE content is extremely low without PvP, but in WoW those two cannot mix because of the community, so blizz has to shovel “new” content into the game to keep it relevant.

This was (and still is) true for classic. If it were such an evergreen experience then why doesn’t it have 12 million subs right now, and why do they need to keep adding subsequent expansions?

Thank you very much for your PoV! This made me feel less stressed (weird, right?), as I found no foothold in this old game, as once was able to. May get into a main, can’t wait for a proper hunter rework, do new content for the sake of seeing it, and do some PvP.

Ps. but it is also concerning there is no endgame game mode where things are similar to classic wow’s mass struggle, lol, in which you can participate, even if for a season, that doesn’t affect endgame PVM or pvp (directly, as currently stands).
