Meaning, pvp gearing still outshadows pve mostly because you can just buy boosts.
with the system they created you actually can. You buy a boost to 1.8k in 2s, then grind points on rating 100 in 3s indefinitely and can upgrade to 220 at any time you please.
That is also why boosting is so popular because you only need to boost ONCE. In bfa we had m15 boosting but you need to repeat it every week to get your gear. For most people that would be too expensive and they would just not do it.

We had no catch up either and it would still promote boosting and create gear differences between people, especially late comers.
All those systems are fine in a nutshell if you imply you only play 1 char and that 1 char you play since week 1 and cap every week. It requires minimal effort and everyone is fine. Or so you would think.
This system, same as our current system falls apart once you are behind.
In pvp we DO NOT need rating gating. Neither for ilvl nor for the speed you can acquire gear. The vault will create already plenty gearing imbalance for the gearing speed reasons alone. You maybe can bear it because maybe it is 1-3 items that someone is ahead but still
make a conquest cap 700 points (or whatever) every week, cap increases weekly additive. If you are 2 weeks behind the cap, you will receive 100 cp for a win and 10 for a loss . Once you caught up, it goes back to normal values.
Include WoD scaling into this so pve gear will not rain supreme and disable legendaries like in legion and bam you got the perfect system.
Hard? nope.
Pvp has plenty replay value, you donât need a crazy grind for gear to incentivize players.
Once pvp gear is useless in pve, participation will drop to the bottom again anyways, especially during the clown fiesta that we currently have.

But if you could acquire it without paying for a boost. Just simply capping the vault each week for guaranteed 226+ with no boosting involved, and no rating upgrades, itâd demolish the meaning of gear drops in any other form of content.
Thatâs why we have this insane amount of rating upgrades. Itâs also why WoD gearing is a good first step, and absolutely necessary as a requirement before they can get rid of this ridiculous timegating and the insane amount of rating upgrades.
As I also mentioned, I doubt theyâll fix all of the problems at the same time, but separating PvP gear from PvE gear and vice versa is a requirement before all of the gear problems can be solved in todayâs WoW.
inb4 people talk about PvP gear becoming âuselessâ in PvE again:
it just means now that blizz wants you to buy a one time boost for some EURs. Every ape can get now 226 gear if the pay up to blizz.
So if they wouldnât care about money, yeah you could just send everybody 226 gear by mail every week.
Once you paid a boost, it is exactly this, you pay lets say 400k gold (40 eur) and are guaranteed 226 items by mail until next patch drops.
You can do 0 MMR games to collect a 200 ilvl item from the vault to immediately upgrade it.
so the difference between acquiring 226 or not is just 40 eur. Might as well add a button in the shop.
Once the season progresses you donât need to wait for the vault or points anymore, you could just farm 300 games and instantly collect 226 gear.
for me it is 0 difference that putting 226 gear in the vault for people winning 30 games on any rating.
THATS how bad boosting is currently.
The vault systems is bad in pve as well because it will always makes dropped gear useless. Now it doesnât apply to pvp luckily. The equivalent would be you can upgrade your gear to 213 but the vault drops 226 gear.
The vast majority of the vault drops Iâve had drop for my characters have been useless or bad stats combinations.
Almost every single time.
For example, this week was the first vault reward from rated PvP for my freshly geared druid. 2/3 of the rewards were items I had already bought last week. The third was the gladiator trinket (the cc-breaker), which ofc I had to take since it was the only usable one.
Meanwhile, I still have honor items in these slots:
Neck, shoulders, cloak, bracers, 1 ring, 1 trinket, and the weapon.
Iâm not gonna wait another week, once I finish up my conquest cap Iâll have enough conquest to buy the weapon which unfortunately Iâm gonna need to do now, because the vault is a horrible slot machine, rigged to give you crappy items most of the time.
Just for the record, Iâve had to take stygia most of the weeks because it wouldnât give me actual usable items, on my other chars. And thatâs with honor pieces still left on them.
(The amount of duplicates dropping from the vault is insane.)

I mean you e.g. run a m15 dungeon but you know the loot (if anyâŠ) that drops will ilvl wise absolutely subpar. So you run it for the weekly gated vault that can drop finally max ilvl that we are seeking (lets be honest) to give you a slot that you got already or terrible stats.
my personal opinion but the vault / legion / bfa chest absolutely ruined the whole loot system and killed the fun in item hunting of wow. Making it the chest of disappointment.
I gave up completely filling out bars for the vault on all my chars. I rather just buy some conquest gear and upgrade it. All my vault pvp items had the wrong stats gg 50/50 change always fail.
Recently no time for arena so just got conquests by bgs / quests whatever so yea normally the vault is just a disappointing bonus, at least in pvp. In pve it is just a disaster altogether unless you mythic raid
This will not help one bit if the upgrade system is the same, you will stil have high lvl pvp players outgearing you and boosting. The upograde system as it is have 70% stuck at under 1400 because they get outgeared not only by Pve gear but PvP palyers boosting with Higher gear. That gear matters is good, but it is way WAY to large of a gap bewtween the ranks.
Too Many specs with versatility as best or 2nd best secondary stat on PVE. That by itself already created a Gap. Even worse when there are meta classes on that group.
Nerfing PvP gear on PVE and the other way around seems the way to go.
Would love to see old standard conquest gear back with no rating requirements, except weapon and any other 2 items at a reasonable rating. But yeah, that 1400 barrier for 200 ilvl casuals is just cancer and has to go. Hoping it was mistake and Will get fixed on 9.1. Unsubbing till signs of no more brainwash by blizz.
