PvP gear changes in 9.1

In the EU Group Interview, Ion Hazzikostas talked about the return of relative item level for PvP Gear in Patch 9.1. If you remember, Warlords of Draenor PvP gear had 2 item levels and scaled differently in PvE (item level 670 ), and PvP (item level 710 ), which meant PvP gear was more powerful for PvP than in PvE. The devs would like to have something similar in Chains of Domination, which would basically result in PvP gear being best for PvP.

Okay people now let’s take bets on how they will screw this up.

This is old news, mb 2 month or so.

This is a good change IF they make pvp gear more easily obtained. I dont want to farm 100K honor on my alts

Should it be any easier to fully PvP gear than it is to fully pve gear? Arguably no.

Why not? If the PvE-itemlevel of the item is so low that it becomes pretty much useless for PvE-players (let’s say 200 in 9.1), I don’t see the point in the honor gear not being thrown out for essentially free.

Im scared that by that they only mean that pvp items will be useless in pve not wod gearing wih all its perks.

This should at the very least destroy boosting, so that alone makes this a good change.

My two cents: Same upgrade system, just with scaling. So making PvP gear useless in PvE while not fixing any of the PvP related problems.

This is not the case, because as of right now we don’t know if they will also get rid of the “better gear with higher ranking”-thing. Like you’re playing on 1.8k and you can upgrade your PvP-gear to scale 10 itemlevels higher than the one from players on 1.6k. If this is not removed nothing will change, and boosts will continue to be sold like crazy.

I mean in theory you could make it that the higher you play, the higher you can upgrade the “PvE”-itemlevel of your gear without influencing its scaling. This would allow players on higher ratings to get decent gear without twisting the PvP-balance.

Sounds like a decent compromise for me, because you would still be rewarded for pushing your rating. (Not to mention titles, mounts etc.)

Aren’t most boosts sold to the PvE players who just want to gear up to 220+ easily? With 9.1 PvP gear will be inferior to raid or M+ gear in the instanced PvE.

Well that would kind of nullify half of the benefits.

“PvP Gear” dont fix convoce, ret oneshots, warri dmg, the hunt

it just makes that u only face glads at 1,3cr cuz there are no PvE players or casuals left and u never can do PvE again cuz noone invs u with ur trash pvp gear…

That depends on how they make the PvP gear acquisition in 9.1. If PvP gear will scale in PvP then there’s not really much reason to restrict it by rating.

pvp gearing is way harder than pve cuz game is dead and u never reach 1.8 or win enougth games so u could have full 220 gear

the only gear change they have to do, is put a vendor, and make item level scale with valor to 2126 with keystone master. don’t touch pvp gear, pvp gear is fine.

Gearing is so extremely grindy and timegated because it’s forcibly compared to the pace of PvE gearing. That’s why it went faster in WoD, and why it’s so much slower now.
It’s also why there are so many rating gates for ilvl, because if you could acquire full 226+ gear from doing nothing other than grinding arenas at 100 rating (yes, one hundred), then it’d overshadow PvE entirely, which is why they are forced to have so many rating upgrades.

It’s why boosting is so popular because PvEers can only get that quick ilvl from boosts, and why basically most of the complaints about PvP gear exists today.

While I don’t think they’ll fix all of the problems at the same time, bringing back WoD gearing would be the first big step that’d allow sorting out the timegating and the insane amount of rating gates later on. Because right now they have no possible way of fixing those without first separating PvP gear from PvE gear.

Since they also have to make torghast possible to clear, even for PvPers, it would also likely mean PvP gear won’t be “entirely” useless in PvE content. It just won’t be the best gear for it, and vice versa.

Well if the pvp gear will be scaled up based on your rating…it wont change jack :poop: .

You buy conquest item and its the best item for the slot in pvp…like it used to be…why the hell we have to reinvent the wheel every expansion and now it seems like every major patch.

Make it like it was…higher rating …more cp…easy.

What Blizzard falls to understand is that from a PvP pov pve gear isn’t an issue. There are a handful of pve items that are better in some Spots (like plaguefall Ring since it’s is haste/versa while PvP only offers One with these stats). The problem is the amount of time it requires to get the PvP gear, the insane upgrade costs and the fact that you are already outgeared on 1400 mmr and therefore have a really hard time getting into the next rating tresholds. Where you would have to farm insane amounts of honor again anyways…

It’s just too time consuming.
