PvP Gearing

Im sorry if this is too ranty. I love PvP.
I think PvP is so fun, but there’s an issue with PvP in arenas.
So Im a new player and I have to gear up with conquest gear. That puts me at 200ilvl.
So Im at 200ilvl, and Im playing arenas with my friend trying to get ti 1400 rating, so we can have better gear.
So here’s the thing, when we get at 1350+ only guys with 40k HP show up! That happens because of boosting or even doing rated BGs to 1800 or something.
How am I and my friend with 31k HP going to beat players with 40k HP with double or damage?!
Sorry if this is too ranty just trying to express my frustration in a healthy way.

I don’t say boosting is not a thing because it is but I got 1.5 with 185 ilvl ww monk and I never played this class before I just know how to rotate my dmg spells and when to use my cds. Tbh this is not even a glad level thing these are the basics. While I agree there are too much overgeared guy on lower rating from my experience most of them plays really bad.

This is one of the first season when even the gear cant carry you. (Except some very very easy class like warrior but even as a warrior if you dont prevent enemy cc chain you will die more often then you should)

You need to know the answer for the following questions:

  • Do you exactly know when is your kill window?
  • Do you know how to setup your kill window?
  • Do you know how the enemy comps can prevent your kill window?
  • Do you know the best way to pump out the biggest damage?
  • Do you know every other class as your own? How their def cds or burst cds looks like?
  • Can you realize when you should avoid dmg and when you should stay in fight?

The line between a very good and a very bad player is really thin. The good player know the answer to every question above. The top players can stay calm in the whole game because they know what the enemy will do in the next 3 steps. Also top players only play with the same skill level partners.

One thing I like in this season that I learned soooo much. I wont get glad but man I will never have the same chance to play against top players. Yesterday on 2.2 mmr in 3s we faced against 2.8k+ players almost every time. Most of them were streamers so its easy to recognize them. Zenlyn Hiddenstalke, Whazz, Facilez, Cervantes etc.
And yes I could write a post here what rank1 players do on 2.2 mmr but actually I was happy that I had a chance to practice against the very top. I feel like my skill level doubled from bfa s4 and I still have a lot to learn.

So my advice is that you should double check if you and your partner does everything good and if you can fix your mistakes, Im pretty sure you can climb out from that 1.4 hole.

The gear is the first that comes to your mind but if you think a little bit further, you will agree it’s your non-existent experience and that’s absolutely fine.
Very important is to understand your comp and what you can do. Luckily you are playing one of the easier specs.
Here is a very good guide from Savix:

You find the burst rotation at 13:15
For a newer player I’d suggest versa/haste instead of versa/mastery but in the end both is viable, you just need to get used to the global cooldowns.
And this is how it should look like with your friend in arena:

You want to land a cross cc and then you go for your burst rotation which you can do every minute. Depends on what your mate is playing, he can join you with some damage during the go’s.

Sorry, but if someone says that gear doesn’t matter only skill I can only say… bullsh1t!

Make PvP gear no rating limited!
Yes, you heard me. No rating requirement to get PvP gear - only conq/honor.
To make it fair, give more conq/honor at higher ratings, less at lower ones. It should stop or at least limitted significantly amount of busters.
Also everyone could get sooner or later equal gear, after sometime grinding pvp activities.

Nobody says it doesn’t matter at all, obviously. But it matters less than people make it sound.
I got with my hunter to 1,8k with covenant gear (+upgrading on the way there) in around ~100 games while playing only with random healers from lfg with no voice. I definitely wouldn’t blame the 6-7 ilvl difference if I couldn’t get higher with my hunter.

While it’s true you can push with crap gear and if you play a broken spec, you have to be a good player to do it.

For the average player playing around 1k6 1k8 just for fun or with their friend maybe 1 hour per day since years, it is obvious they aren’t really good player but everything is insanely way harder for them especially with another big wall to break.

Right now low exp people have to deal with the braindead meta where you can die in 1 sec then deal with people with around 20 ilvl in general more than they have and the fact that a lot of boost are actually ruining the ladder by the most famous streamer and awc challenger.

The game isn’t fun when you don’t play 8hours per day with top rated mate :s

It’s not really that impossible. Me and a rogue who had 29k hp and I had 27k hp which is around 180 ilvl did only like 30 games and got to 1232 from 0, and a lot of these people we fought had way more gear than us - some were 40k+ ret teams. Unless literally every team is 40k after that point, I think 1500 is very doable at 185 ilvl. Maybe not as double dps, but as healer dps it is.

It is possible for sure. But its not fast or a pice of cake like some ppl trying to present it here.

What is fast? It’s like ~100 games for 1,8k rating (2s) for an average PvP player.

Well if you both have poop gear then yu will just lose some games by default. And that, obviously, slower the process alot.

Because atm no matter how good you are…some ppl that you meet at 1200cr or even lower that are rival or duelist geared maybe play like bots backpedle etc…but if a 45k hp dk press his infinite gauntlet gripmaster 3000 with his stun immunity, spell immunity, fear immunity, spammable grip and slow…you just wont outheal it. Same for ret or elemental or boomkins.

Im not saying it impossible, but ppl comming here with 50games or less played at 190 ivl are just bullcraping or got boosted.

Well yes and of course it also depends what comp you are playing. With my hunter I needed exactly 116 games but I didn’t even want the rating, I was just bored trying to get in a RBG group sitting in LFG for hours. When I randomly got 1,7k by capping I decided to “push” for 1,8k quick. Basically I was looking for hpriest only at this point instead of playing with whoever accepts me first.

Idk what other people mean by fast but for me it’s ~200 games. I find this amount reasonable if we are talking about alts with “no gear”. This amount of games is done for a casual players in like 3-4 days? Farming the conquest/honor afterwards takes definitely longer

Well, even the games we lost, we lost because of mistakes: not anticipating that much damage because we are used to more gear, holding CDs too much instead of just trading them because of the same thing. A lot of it was just adjusting to the damage and then we started to win most of the games.

We fought a DK with 37k hp as opposed to our 27k hp. Didn’t really see that many people with 40k+. Here’s the video. https://youtu.be/d2FlpDdYscM?t=700

Dk under 40k hp is heavily undergeared character.

70% if the community didn’t break 1400 and 90% didn’t break 1800 due to MMR being inflated by boosters. Have fun guys!
