PvP Rating Adjustments

I mean BFA s4 - SL S2 were complete anomalies because of covid, no? People only spam played because there was nothing else to do in the world. I actually quit in BFA s4 because of all the corruption things you had to do until lockdown came in.

If we went into lockdown again today I’d doubt all of these people complaining that they’re still not 1800 (which is a day 1 achievement) would be sat around waiting to play…

Could be because of covid, but as an objective fact they were one of the most participated seasons in the recent history of wow, and i think it’s worth a shot to experiment seasons like that again maybe to a lesser extent.

My point is the player base contributed to that inflation by actively playing the game non-stop and contributing to the MMR pool. Now, they’re not playing anywhere near as much because they have too much pride because ‘bAcK iN sL i GoT xYz In 2 DAyS’.

This is infact true, but also solo shuffle took away alot of players from legacy brackets, and legacy brackets will even lose more players when bg blitz is out, so in some way we have to simulate bfa s4 and s2 numbers.

Something interesting i have noticed was sl s1 had less participation later on than s2 of sl even though sl s1 was Peak covid. Coincidence?

I believe sl s1 was infested with pve people at start, because the gear was better? Not sure anymore

Thank you Kaviax for your feedback, we really appreciate it. I hope that mmr inflation will be significant enough, like 100 mmr gain will not solve anything, it must be more significant. Also the first half of the ssn needs huge inflation and if you see the ratings are high enough you can stop the inflation on the second half of the ssn.

Idk for most others but I know I didn’t bother with SL S1 at all because that was when I moved to Uni and I had no interest in the game whatsoever at that point

That is result of your actions, such as decreasing weekly conquest cap down from 1250 to 550.

Conquest cap had nothing to do with lower participation.

You are wrong. Higher cap - longer to get it, more games are played by low rank players. Which helps other get more wins. More wins - higher mmr, rating.

Isn’t really that simple. When you combine vault, wpvp gear, crafted gear and conquest gear you can get almost full gear by now. If conquest was increased we’d all be full gear already.

Not sure CP really affects participation; gearing (which imo CP is linked too since that’s all its good for) is really good right now. The best its ever been imo.

The problem is all the brick walls you hit and how early you now hit them. The fact the brick walls are now so low since shuffle has been added is a bigger issue too imo.

Then every sweat gears up in 1 day and smashes low rated players and they stop queueing -lower mmr, rating.

See i can do this too.

Sorry, I wasn’t clear enough. Back in the days you had to win at least 12 games to get full cap, now it is just 6.

OMG, did you start playing yesterday? Everyone is playing PvP for rewards: title, mounts, gear.
Lower rank players can’t get glad mount or title, so they don’t care about their rank that much, all they want is to get full gear to transmog. Once they do it - they leave PvPing. To hold them longer - high cap (and item costs) was invented. But blizz removed it, so low rankers don’t play much nowadays which causes mmr issues for all of us.

Just because you say something doesn’t make it true.

One might say it’s even worse, since gladiator rewards are still unobtainable, even by AWC players.
Imagine if mythic raid would still be unbeatable to this day. People would be absolutely crazy. As same as Mythic first, people should be gladiator first during first 2 weeks no questions asked.

LOL no. You legit have counterexamples when s2 followed what you propose - it was mostly dead season.
S1 on the other hand was what you complain about - it was the most player-active season by a long shot in a long time.
So the data shows that you’re so wrong.

Why should they be? If I was Glad in the first 2 weeks, there is literally zero reason for me to keep playing arenas after that.

Most PvE’rs can’t get cutting edge until 100 nerfs have been made to the raid, and the only people who care about the world first are the racers and the viewers that spend 18 hours a day watching it.

But now the majority don’t even queue at all till last 2 weeks

Why would you care how inflated season would be? either way u can’t get past 2k just stick to your random battlegrounds

Yep playerbase and game design issue. Percentage based titles back are probably the best way of maintaining decent levels of participation throughout.
