Coming back to the game after quite some time gone… Why do we have talents that are exclusive to open world and pvp? Why aren’t these just 3 more talent rows? The current iteration feels really bad and immersion breaking. Is there a blue post on this somewhere explaining the logic?
Good question, something alot of us have been wondering about as well.
from what I understand, the pvp talents were supposed to be effects that could effectively break the game somehow like dark simulacrum.
Of course then they started adding generic things that would have been nice to have all the time to it instead like that warrior charge resets overpower thing.
Man there is a PvP talent for Afflock that makes playing Aff 100000% better the one that makes your drain ability constantly refresh all your dots on the target…
im using it in open world and in pvp… the momment i go into a dungeon and it gets removed makes the aff spec feel boring , annoying , and trash to play honestly…
i hate this PvP talent system…
Yes, it is odd.
Talents stopped at lvl 100, but we kept leveling to 120 missing two rows of talent expansion (lvl 110 and 120.)
There’s some good PVP talents I’d totally use, but I’d rather not do PVP.
Probably the same reason they added a DELAY to the doors opening - so now the second counter counts seconds to a ‘moment when you have to wait a bit more’ instead of to ‘when the doors open’. I can’t understand the rationale for this, and I can’t think of any good reason to do it, but it’s done.
Another curiosity is removing ‘Swiftness Potion’ (the only thing that saved me sometimes as a flag carrier), but STILL offer it as a BG reward.
Think about it; now we have a BG REWARD that you can NOT use in BGs. What sense does that make? About as much as getting a cloak as loot in mythics, although we’re required to get a specific other cloak in the game, so the cloak is useless. And yet, it’s offered as a reward for mythics.
Does any of this make any sense?
I agree. I would love if things could just be ‘consistent’, meaning you could do everything and anything anywhere. Let us dismount flying horde in Goldshire without having to be in War mode, let us use all our abilities in PvP and PvE, world and BG, don’t take anything away that we already have.
I still mourn for displacement, it was a true lifesaver, and made mages feel truly magical, being able to suddenly disappear from a sticky situation and appear somewhere far away and invisibilize = safety. Now there’s no ‘easy escape’ anymore. Playability went down drastically.
Right in the feelings.
Anyone know if there’s been a blue post on this subject? Very interested to read the reasoning behind this.
In my opinion, on paper PvP Talents is not a bad idea. Without swelling up your regular Spellbook, these state their purpose quite clearly - being good mainly in PvP situations. They also diluted the complications of the regular Talent rows, making them level-based with uniformity and allowing the PvP Talents to follow their own level-unlock system to avoid overwhelm.
I cannot speak for the Talents within the trees, though. In the specializations I play I sometimes see a definable use, but sometimes they are passives that either could not have existed at all, or could’ve been Rank spells. Overall the idea behind it is great, but the Talents locked behind it can give a justifiably empty feel to your playstyle.
I think the idea is extremely bad. Several of the specs I play have what I would descibe as spec defining abilities as pvp abilities. (Stationary ball of frost and lightning lasso for example. Feels really bad when you lose these. Warlocks and hunters also have very nice active abilities there.)
