Q4 2022 Financial Report - DF sales are poor

So … I was right.

DF sales are the worst ever. Of course their way of saying it is…a bit different.

Also Activision Blizzard sales YoY are also bad.

For the year ended December 31, 2022, Activision Blizzard’s net revenues presented in accordance with GAAP were $7.53 billion, as compared with $8.80 billion for 2021.

And this is with DF release, OW2 release, WotLK release, COD-MW2 release, etc.

DF sales only happened once.

From Activision Blizzard POV I don’t really care.

From my POV, I absolutely love that less players are purchasing the expansion, and that less people are playing it. I’ve always said, that Blizz should launch an expansion, and alter the gameplay / decisions for their true customers, rather than millions, who don’t do anything else than quit and whine.

Personally, I like DF very much, and I’m very satisfied with it.

Ignore 2021 was covid. Which was a boom in profits for the gaming industry across the world.

That profits drop is one of the smallest seen since covid. But ofcourse negatively spin that and remove context.

Also, we are aware after 6 years the constant let down in borrowed power systems did damage.

And sales release sure, however actually if u read in full its retained more players, i.e more returning players then left.

So how do u levy that out.

Because the satisfactory % is higher then the prior expansions aswell.

Also lets skip the fact SL had 12 million sales due to covid. Even if DF dropped bakc to 6 million sales. Its still very successful lol

DF for its timeline is actually earning more then prior expansions due to player retaining, as players on majority are happy with the expansion. This is more important from a players pov.

Dont matter if 12million subbed when SL dropped 40% of its playerbase in 2 months.

Very selective quoting there!

Missed this part…

In the Warcraft franchise, World of Warcraft delivered significant year-over-year growth in reach, engagement and net bookings in the fourth quarter following the September release of Wrath of the Lich King® Classic and the November launch of Dragonflight™. While early Dragonflight sales have not reached the level of the prior expansion, community feedback on the title has been positive. Blizzard has announced plans to deliver substantially more follow-on content for the expansion than in the past, and post-launch subscriber retention in the West is higher than recent expansions. Elsewhere in the Warcraft franchise, mobile title Warcraft: Arclight Rumble™ continues to progress well through regional testing.

what you expect from a expantion that has very bad optimization ,runs worse than most free to play games and has more bugs than cyberpunk?

and antisocial systems like dragonflying, solo queue, toxic M+ and pay to win raids and unbalanced fotm pvp?

Ofcourse ud appear lol.

Not necessarily strange to see those numbers. I mean Blizzard had a huge amount of credit with their fanbase and they basically destroyed all of that trust since Legion.
From my pov DF is the best expansion since MoP and I’m happy with what they did.

If they now get back to their roots by making a game for casuals and destroying the boosting communities in the long run I’ll be a happy customer until they break it again.

They still happen. What?

Are you serious?! Less sales = Less Content = Less People working at WoW = In general … worst experience.

Can’t believe there are people like you.

Facepalm. Really?! That’s your excuse? I mean, DF release, WoTLK release, OW2 release, COD2-MW2 release, Diablo 4 Pre-orders, and you tell me that they sold good in 2021 becaus of COVID? LOL. Blizzard also had 24 mil MAWs in 2021 vs 48 mil today.

Even ion said this, he doesnt expect a huge sales launch til 11.0 for these reasons.

Thats a accurate statement of the situation

Lool excuse? Its facts. Exactly. Ur pulli g hairs. Ur statement says so.

U have no idea where the loss was, ur just attempting to ignite a fire around this expansion as u have done at the start of multiple others.

And yes. Covid was a boom. Game sold 12millions

You can tell he is back from his ban :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah sure, but they look at the total number of DF sales right? I can’t recall buying DF in 2015 f.e.

Look, it’s just a very poorly supported argument you’re tossing onto the ether. Selective quotes with faulty conclusions.

I second this statement.

Also, as much as I am sorry for the Chinese players not being able to play WoW anymore, it is ALSO a good thing that AB lost the chinese market for WoW.

That means they HAVE TO invest into the western market again and suit for OUR needs first so we STAY at least.

A successful mmorpg doesn’t need millions of users. Check the market.
Games like GW2 which is way more accessible never had the userbase WoW had still they make enough money for content patches that get players playing. They have a raid system, they have fractals (basically M+) and they have very easy access pvp (from level 2-70) while even giving levelers full zones of people because no zone is ever “outdated”.
That’s the perfect mix of casual and hardcore system for modern mmorpg.

WoW made the huge mistake to evolve into M+/raid or die and put all resources into that. Now they try to turn that ship around and of course won’t improve numbers suddenly.

I’m not too worried. Blizzard has lost a lot of customer trust over the course of Shadowlands, and lost trust is not regained in a day. At this point DF is a great expansion imo and it seems to be relatively well-received, which is much more than can be said for the two last expansions. As long as WoW stays on track, I’m genuinely optimistic for the first time since the end of Legion.

Sure but don’t forget all the other information:

“community feedback has been positive and post-launch subscriber retention in the West is higher than recent expansions.”

Although sales we poor due to poor Shadowlands performance. Feedback is positive and sub retention is higher that recent expansions.

Thats the important part. Keeping players playing and having good feedback.

If those who are playing are having a good time and continuing to play, then more will come.

doesnt matter- they have record time revenue.

this means that milking of whales is going really good

this way they can keep their games in maitnance mode and still get enough profits to get nice juicy end of year bonuses  and bobby can buyhimself 17th megayacht.

this basicly confrirms they give up on regaining lost players and will just keep game in maitnance mode keeping only mythic raiders and m+ pushers happy

rest who is not happy with battlepass transmogs and farming old legacy content doesnt have place in game anymore in their plans.

its quite sad to see funeral of wow - but i had to happen sometimes we all knew it.

if you are not transmog farmer / m+ / mythic raider wow is not game for you. its quite bold stateemnt but it tells a lot why DF is such collosal failure as it is.

sub retention is higher that recent expansions

I’m willing to believe that, during SL i had already left the game by now.
And i would first return around 1.5 year later towards the end of the expac.

Also the dungeon finder seems so much more alive than it was in SL, even though i didn’t play a lot. So i might be wrong on that one.
