True words. And very, very old ones. As they date all the way back to 2012 when MoP was running. Horde side was spearheaded by Vol’jin, Baine and Lor’themar. A Troll, Tauren and a Blood Elf.
While the Alliance side was Varian, Anduin and Jaina. Three Humans. People all the way back then 13 years ago were pointing that out, complaining that Alliance side of the story is more boring because of it. And still here are.
As for the playable High Elves. One really has to have a mount everest of copium to believe that Quel’dorei still will be added as a separate race.
Pale skinned Void Elves are playable High Elves, just like Red skinned Draenei are Man’ari Eredar. Both are reduced to mere customization option with one difference being that at least in case of Draenei we had to do a short questline and sort of “earn” it.
While Void Elves just got flat out copy paste Blood Elf options. And I cannot stress enough how weird thing it is in case of the Draenei. Man’ari should have been a separate race just like Lightforged are.
As they differ from Draenei so much more than High Elves do from Blood Elves which are basically the same race, with one key difference is that Blood Elves named themselves as such in honor to their slain people. While High Elves have no people to honor at all.
Blizzard is now going a complete EZ mode right now. Not even bothering to introduce proper Allied Races anymore.
Another argument moving against playable High Elves as a separate race is the introduction of Arathi people. This serves as a sort of statement of how Thalassian Elves have changed.
In the past, Quel’dorei and Humans of Arathor worked so close together that they eventually spawned an entire bastard nation out of their union. A nation where every Arathi is to some degree of human-elven origin. A full hybridization of the people.
Most of them display primarly human features with pointy ears. While a few have predominantly elven look with short ears. And they do not consider themselves as neither Humans nor Elves. They call themselves Arathi.
Now they and destroyed Dalaran serve as a testament and a legacy of what once was. A monument of Human-Elf combined efforts. Something that will not happen ever again.
Dalaran is no more. City that was the embodiment of gift of magic that Elves bestowed upon Humans, and a symbol of their enduring Alliance.
Now Citizens of Quel’thalas are taking hard turn toward their own Elvenkind. Through union with Suramar and alliance with Court of Farondis, the Blood Elves are capitalizing on Dalaran’s destruction by replacing this once great place of learning with even a greater one.
Sin’dorei, Shal’dorei and Court of Farondis have joined in effort to restore the Academy of Nar’thalas. To turn it onto a Supreme School of Magic that will make Dalaran look like a mere Kindergarden.
The Academy will become a school of Arcane knowledge and research on the nature of the curse that torments Farondis and his people. Should it ever be lifted, the Blood Elves will receive an even greater boost.
This is a historical moment. Shal’dorei have completely replaced Humans in hearts of Thalassian Elves. And instead of a second Dalaran we will have a fully restored ancient Elven School of Magic.
The few remaining Quel’dorei will either serve as a genetical template to make more “Arathi” with Humans just as Elisande envisioned for them. Or they will turn to the void and become Ren’dorei.
Where as in the case of the Blood Elves we might expect some hybrids showing up among them as well. But this time due to efforts with the Nightborne. Only 50% Sin’dorei sure. But at least still 100% Elves.
