Quest 'arrow' markers in 8.2

The last patch introduced the quest arrow marker : When our character is on one continent, the quest objective is in another and we click that quest in the log, the game opens the map of the zone with the arrow.

The problem is that there is no way to know where the actual objective is, unless the quest text states so.

In addition, the routing algorithm is not and cannot be perfect. So there are times the game suggests as our best route boats and portals around the world, when the same can be better achieved with a short flight, hearthstones or a class ability.

Although this is a good idea and it does help in certain cases, it would be useful to know the objective location. Because, you know, with choice, freedom, class fantasy, years of playing etc. I can plan my route instead of being led by a sometimes misleading algorithm.

So either these arrows should be clickable so we can follow the suggested steps on the map or the objective location should be made clearly known in some other way.

I noticed the same thing and it annoyed me greatly.

An option to turn it off would be great.

I’d love an option to toggle it too. It also never seems to be massively accurate to me - I’ve had it try to send me on quite weird routes to places only a couple of portal hops away.

This is one of the worst changes in the history of WoW. I don’t know what were they thinking… This should be reverted, but it won’t happen probably. They never revert awful changes sadly. You either play how they want you to play this game or quit. Players do not have options or freedom in this game anymore. Play the way devs want you to or GTFO, sad but true. No wonder they are losing players all the time with attitude like that…

OK that’s a bit of an overreaction. It really is a good idea, because not everyone knows about portals and boats and zeppelins. It just needs a little tweaking.

If, for example, they make the little arrows clickable to take us to the next stage in the route, all will be happy: Some players will just follow the arrows, others will check the route and maybe take a shortcut if they can, based on their abilities and knowledge of the game world.

You could read quest to see where u need to go?

What are you suggesting here? That folk read the quest? Solve problems?

What are you thinking- heresy

Not all quests specify where you have to go. When you click them and the map opens at the objective location this is not a problem. But when the map opens at a random location… it is.

I’m not seeing you point

You could go and adventure to find the quest location - using the clues in the quest description and story so far?

Hmmmm anyone know if the arrow also extends to corpse location? Yesterday I used a soul stone on my lock during the Naz world boss fight and had a silly arrow directing me on screen to my corpse…yet I’d just res’d and so was alive. I’d assumed it was an addon thing doing it yet hadn’t before but the timing fits with being due to this.

It seems to be something new and unnecessary

I’m doing some MoP rep - I have an arrow advising me to take a portal to Org to go to Pandaria to pick up my Halfhill vegetable farm quests - along with suggested routes

It is what it is - unnecessary - yes -but that’s for me others may need it new to world

Before this change I had control over how to do things: hearthstones, city portals, flight, class abilities, class halls. Or even -amazing- be summoned by friends.

Now, if there are no clues (as was the case prompting this thread) I will just have to blindly follow arrows. Faster than searching for clues around the world (remember, the character and the quest are on different continents) and very annoying when I discover I wasted my time on the algorithm’s suggested world trip, when I could simply use a hearthstone.

I already said this is a good idea. They just need to add the missing information, the objective location, and everyone will be happy.

Agree with the OP. The quest arrows aren’t very useful to me when I’m not entirely sure what they’re wanting me to go and do. Most of the time it turns out I’ve got a battlepet quest selected by accident, but I won’t know this until I’m on the right continent.

That sounds like the TomTom addon where it shows you your corpse location once you die, the arrow goes away if you do a corpse run, usually when you battle ress it doesn’t go away, but it’s easy to remove, just right click on the arrow, there is an option to turn it off.

No, it’s an arrow on the map icon and also on the minimap.

And yes, it’s completely broken.

The people responsible for the code and its approval should legitimately play the game sometimes, then they’d see how not only useless, but sometimes misleading it is.

Wanted to hand in the dragon scale in the Twilight Highlands. The obvious route would be to take a portal from Stormwind, directly to TH. Right?
Nahhhhhhhh. How bout a nice trip via the Deeprun Tram instead, as per WoW Quest Helper™ suggestion

I would like to turn this off as well. It’s annoying to have a highlighted portal/exit to zone when it’s not relevant and I have nothing I can go to at that point in time.

I want to be able to turn it off and i’ll be happy. Having my mage getting directed with a detour was laughable. I don’t follow those directions, i pick my own routes even if i’m picking a less efficient route, i want to figure it out myself.

I’m glad I’m not the only one to notice this, I have been levelling a character in Northrend and when I go to another zone to hunt rares I get told to use the big turtle to go back to the right zone.

I have this feature now in real life and it’s very annoying.
Major stations in my city have giant signs on them.
Also I get an alert on my phone telling me to pick up my cutlery every time i knock a fork off.

yea. that thing’s annoying sometimes.

But i’m sure eventually they’ll improve it.
