issue 1) In the “old days”, the quest log had a number: X / Y (x = current number of quests, y = total can you have).
However, that seems to be gone!
Meaning there is no way of knowing if i am at quest limit for accepting new quests or not!
And no, you cant finish all before moving on because of issue nr. 2
issue nr. 2) does
Let me just quote a poster (a player named Anying from the old us forums):
Battle pets, professions that require instances, first-aid quests that auto-accept themselves into my log, class hall and other collection quests that require multiple instance runs, raid gathering quests that will take a minimum of 4 weeks to complete.
The excuse of “oh, just play one zone at a time and finish up what you’re doing!” doesn’t fly anymore when there are so many quests currently designed to sit in our logs until we can group, or until we’ve done group content multiple times.
So basicly, not only do i not have any control over how many quests i have (not knowing), but i run out of quest log space because of all the 10000s self-inviting/ auto-inviting quests !
Now:
Does anyone know of any mod that can tell me how many quests (x of y) i have?
A mod to forcefully re-add that old number, x of y, like the quest log had “back in the day” ?
(and preferably, without making a mess of the default U.I.! or adding 10000 other small windows etc…something small and clean)
i tried looking my self, but to no avail
for blizzard devs - pls do one of the following:
2.1) double the quest limit: 25? srs?
2.2) re-add that quest numbering x of y !
2.3) enough with the crap with self-adding quests (i.e. professions!) or non-essentials quest crumbs !
WoW may say the addon is out of date, but it is still working. If it bothers you, you can modify the Interface number in CQuestCounter.toc to read 80100
I would think that would be very confusing to new players or even some old ones.
The quest limit at least encourages you to look though and see what you don’t need and what is no longer relevant. There are an awful lot of quests in the game, I can’t imagine the lag when trying to open your quest log if it’s got a gazillion irrelevant quests listed in there.
Maybe a little overhaul of the quest log needed. Be nice to pick up every quest but also have sub categories, so I’m thinking start with top level which expansion quest belongs too so when I’m bored I can go suppose I’ll go finish some of those WOD quests. Rather then just have zone and grey level quests
I think the quest limit was lower in Vanilla than it is now. I vaguely remember it going up with some expansion, but I can’t remember which.
Personally I don’t think it’s a low limit. I think people are doing something wrong if they feel the need to hoard that many quests. It’s not like it doesn’t leave a big ! on the map when you drop a quest while levelling. You can always go back to it later if you really want to.
Opinions are bound to differ and people approach things differently. I like to complete and hand things in, in an efficient orderly fashion. I work systematically wherever I can.
I missed the last half of Legion, so as I was levelling to 120, my log was half full of all the Legion quests I still needed to do. I was dropping half done chains just to get quests for BfA and forgetting where to pick them back up from again.
Seriously, extend the f*****g quest log. I swear, everything in this game is limited and restricted just for the sake of it. You can only have 25 quests! Yeah? Why?
The Quest Log can hold 25 quests at a time. The initial release of World of Warcraft had a limit of 20 quests, but with the release of Burning Crusade and the 2.0 patch, the limit was increased to 25 quests.
the problem is, i have a lot of quests stored for later and sometimes don’t even remember where have i picked them up so i don’t want to abandon them. it would be right to just complete them but some takes long time to finish or require pug raids, etc. and with lots of alts this can become a problem
i admit it can be confusing for some but the sub categories Superliam mentioned above could be a solution. we could click on tabs of expansion/zones and that should be fine.
I’m sure things could be done to improve it. I would rather we didn’t have a limitless questlog but there must be something that would work better to please both sides.
I do every single quest I can find in this (my main) so it’s not like I don’t do them all, but on alts I’m not so fussed.
maybe some small changes would suffice, like separating general (not zone-bound) / pvp / dungeon / profession / legendary quests from the 25 limit, or something like that (some quests seem to not respect the limit btw, they are auto picked even if i’m already on the limit).
They did at least change so some account bound quests didn’t count towards the log but more improvements like that would probably help players who struggle.
At least we don’t actually pick up daily quests any more, they are all just on the map and complete when done.
That article also mentions how there used to be a 20 limit.
Hmm well it already have a gazillion quests in there. I still got 25 daily quests, 20~or so quests, some pet quests and orderhall ones on this one. It’s a bit around 70 or so quests, which whould not been a issue to keep track off with the old “quest log”.
What causes the current issues are mostly a limit to quests… seriously you can’t even pick up all relevant quests in Kul’tiras before it’s full. I were limited to six-seven slots on this because i didn’t want to abandon ongoing stuff from legion(ended up doing it anyways).
There is also the issues with the new quest interface which cause some confusion when it’s attached to your map of all things.
