[Quest] Rook Rally - Why can't anything be not cringe?

Thrall:

Well done. The stormrooks have headed your call.

Rooktender Lusela:

Not just mine. Theirs. They chose to help us of their own free will.

OK, I could have made a similar post about many parts of the story in TWW so far but this one, really. It is so cringe. I can just feel the issues in our real life seeping into the game and it honestly just breaks the immersion.

I have no issue with free will and feelings in real life but can’t anything just be epic in the game without bringing up stuff like this? Yes, I know that Shraubendre chose Lusela so maybe it is about their lore or whatever but at least that one is named so seems unique, the others are just random ‘Stormrook’.

The Stormrooks choosing of their own free will mirrors the Earthen’s own decision to forego the edicts left to them by the Titans. The arc of the Earthen people is about them asserting their independence and individuality, as opposed to just doing what the Titans wanted them to do. The rooks being bound against their will would have been thematically incongruent with that wider story beat.

I fail to see what is ‘cringe’ about any of it. Maybe you could try articulating that instead of simply asserting it like it is fact.

I honestly don’t remember anything the characters said in the cutscenes, as I don’t let it impact my life or playing experience

I think its a “you” thing, not Blizzard.

You’ve cast this out on to fertile ground though, I’m sure the tinfoil brigade will be along shortly with their pitchforks, gigabrains and a family sized pack of koolaid.

The only thing i was a bit meh, it were the horde shops sailing togheter with kuktirans ships. But it was not cringe. Just. Meh.
Or maybe realpolitik or pragmatism.
