Reading about TBC it says: Arenas: Assemble allies and prove your PvP prowess in 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 combat in Arenas such as the Ring of Trials and the Circle of Blood.
I’m just wondering if anyone could give their opinion on the 5v5 Arena format? I never played TBC back in the day so I assume it existed back then as well? Just curious the reasoning behind why it doesn’t exist in retail and during what expansion 5v5 Arena was removed from the game? Was it that bad to the point Blizzard removed it entirely from the modern game?
Quite the clusterfunk.
I was mostly in the lower brackets so we probably just faced random noob teams but it was the most fun to be had in arena for sure. A mini team deathmatch bg.
Bit cumbersome to organize the team and had quite long queues at times.
Lack of players and a pain to balance is probably why they skipped it in later expansions.
Thanks for the response all - Agree with you too Frizzle, 5v5 to me sounds like a lot of fun, 2v2 and 3v3 is too few numbers to appeal to me personally but I accept there’s a lot of balancing issues with 5v5 but it should still exist in retail in my opinion, I’m just glad it’ll be included when TBC is released
If I remember correctly it played out like Classic BG’s in that you’d try to form your team around dealing unhealable burst damage so you’d have a team stacked with Elemental Shamans, AP/PoM mages, BM hunters etc and gain try gain an advantage by making the game 4 v 5 straight away.
5v5 was the first ever blizzard-ran e-sportlike tournament format with wow celebs such as Kungen, awful indeed and dropped immediatly in favour of 3v3.
5v5 bracket has a place in tbc for one sole reason: it grants by far the most arena points per week (to buy glad gear) in relation to ratings. It aldo means somewhat weak/hard specs can tag along and get some gear since it’s a clown fiesta 1-shot bonanza, hah!
1500 rating (starting points) gives more weekly currency than 1750 2v2. And staying at the starting level of 1500 is a breeze. But every 5-man team requires a holy paladin since bubble is the only way to heal admist the chaos before 1-3 people die during those 12 seconds.
Remember: season 1 day 1 most people walz in with 6-7k hp and 0 resilience. 100 resil if blue lvl 70 pvp set is on, still quite low. It’s a burst or be bursted meta in s1.
But points are solid and if you reach 1650+ rating you get 1 glad piece per week, the expensive ones. Worth it! Can be really fun too!!
