Question about "gear Update"

Hi

I just logged in to get my free twitch toy and all my characters have “Gear Update” instead of their location.

What’s it all about?

OK thanks, do you know if it’s a forever thing or a limited time.

I’m not aware of how long it’s available for. If I find something I’ll post it.

The reason I’m asking is that I have two account almost full of characters. Which will take time to get the new items for each and considering I only logged in to get the twitch freebie I don’t really play Retail much anymore.

It’s a permanent catch up mechanic, providing you meet the requirements:-

The Welcome Back Gift will be available for any character level 10-60 who hasn’t logged in for 60 days even if that character has previously received a Welcome Back Gift.

There are no plans at present for this system to be withdrawn.

OK thanks again.

Are you telling me that if I skip logging my alts for 60 days they’ll get this?

I mean, sounds handy. Logging okd chars can sometimes be painfull and I usually have to manually clear logs etc anyways…

Yeah it’s a new system. I have most of my alts with this atm.

I should really read future patch notes… Like a week or two ago I was bored and was just logging around the majority of my alts, so I think there is 1 or 2 who can get this now lol.

This is good. I sometimes level an alt via Pet Battles etc and so they end up very poorly geared. I can put them out to stud for a few months when they reach 50 or 60 and then instantly gear them.

My level 51 got iLevel 152 gear.

Honestly its a crap system.

It gave my monk gear 70 ilevels below what it had, reset its bars and filled its mail with the stuff I had.

So the net result is it downgraded my gear and screwed up my bars.

Woohoo.

It’s a catch up system not a system to advance an already geared player.

You can skip it. I don’t have a max level character so I can’t say what iLevel gear you get.

70 ilvls sounds like it’s only possible for a level 60 with endgame SL gear, otherwise we’ll need more information on that (what level, what ilvl you had and what ilvl you got).

I was 240ish and it dropped to 171. So it was “decent” SL gear but I believe it was at least a season or 2 old.

I’ve just tried it with my mage that did pretty much nothing of note in SL. It dropped from 226ish to 187 and still reset all my bars. So “normal” gear from the middle tier got replaced with something worse than a normal dungeon for a level 60.

Like I said, it’s a catch up mechanic, designed for those who didn’t do anything at up to 60. Not to gear a character for raids.

I believe it’s the same iLevel gear you get when you buy a boost.

Yes, it was also buffed since 10.1.5 release by something like 13 ilvl because apparently it really was too low on release. I’m assuming it uses the leveling dungeon ilvl reward curve or something similar. It’s good for characters who are badly geared, but it’s nothing that’ll knock your socks off.

It obviously isn’t designed for characters like yours.
If you already had gear better than this system provides then the answer is don’t use it.
There are plenty of players who level up with all sorts of methods that leave them with really low level gear. This is who this system is designed for.

Also some character that are sitting around since before the squish, their existing gear will be squished quite badly.
