So I just noticed, that post updates certain faces/character creation options for humans, have , what would be considered at least mildly asian traits, facial features etc.(Which i think is cool , more options/representation is always <3).
Do you lore folks know , or can point me to any Human kingdoms etc inspired or related to more Oriental themes?
Not what I mean’t … You have Gilneas with references to English victorian times. Lordaeron that is a bit more traditionally medieval. Stormwind wich is a naval mercantile empire with a sort of almost american west feeling to it etc… All I was asking ^.^
Well, human kingdoms are already fully color blind. Don`t you think that making specific kingdoms for specific races would be a step back and not forward?
I probably didn’t articulate my question well enough if that is how it came across, was mostly just curious about lore, not a huge lore guy, and if there are influences from Asian culture in Human lore.
Dunno Things like the witcher are… pretty westernized appropriations of my own culture, but I found references to things like the Vedmak’s etc to be kinda cool even if not 1/1.
To give a proper answer, the most remote theme around fantasy Far East / Oriental attachments in WoW seems to be Pandaria and the Wandering Isle. At the most, the appearances were put without actual locale substance in mind.
Humans in WoW has - as far as I know and I could very well be wrong - only ever explored traditional Western/European themes with a bit of Middle-Eastern inspirations from those in Tanaris.
I dont think that was what the point was. OP was asking for influences and ideas as to what led to the appearances being made, not something as malign as what you had in mind.
Unfortunately, none of the visual differences and ethnic groups shown in the character creation screen, are related in any way to actual lore regarding the different human kingdoms.
It’s a shame really, that the human race, with its wild range of customisation options that could nurture a richer setting, has had said differences brushed aside as little else as non-canon cosmetics.
It could’ve been cool to have for example Asian features coming from a settlement in Tel’Abim. Or Arab features having a Wastewanderer background.
But alas, that’s not the case.
To this day, you don’t have physical or cultural differences between the different human kingdoms ingame (except with Kul Tiras). Or at least not enough to have a visual representation on their appearance.
I’ll repeat that it’s a shame, because even books hinted at those differences actually existing.
