Question about raid lockout

Hey, maybe someone can help me understand how lockout works . I thought I knew but can’t seem to grasp what I’m doing wrong. So here’s the thing:

I want to farm madness of deathwing. I get to it, so the raid is 7/8 and invite my wife’s character. She gets inside, locks her character at 7/8 and leaves the group and the instance. After she leaves I kill the boss and relog on one of my alts. Wife then enters the instance to try invite my alt for an easy skip BUT as she enters inside she is greeted with a message stating that instance is now 8/8 and if she wants to either leave or accept lockout.

Why is it happening? Her character leaves when it’s 7/8 so it should stay that way. If someone can tell me what we are doing wrong I would appreciate it greatly.

Cata was still a time before boss lockouts, the raid had one ID that was the same for all players.

If one player cleared the raid, with or without the rest of the group, everyones lockout was affected.

For ex. I was once in a naxx 25 run with guild where we made the mistake of inviting 2 pugs… one of htem just trolled and repeatedly wiped the raid, so after patchwerk we disbanded and wanted to do the rest the next day.

But that ************ decided to (I know this for a fact because he boasted about it on the DE forums) buy a carry for his ID (which was also our ID), and ofc the raid was cleared. When we zoned in teh next day, there was nothing left for us to kill.

Boss-louckouts didn´t become a thing until flex raiding, i.e. WoD Prepatch -era Siege of Orgrimmar. Everything before that is one lockout for all players.

Thank you! I thought it maybe was a bug or something. Now I won’t stress myself about it. Seems if I want to farm it I have to clear it every time. Wouldn’t be that bad if not for the spine.

Once again, I’m grateful for your help <3
