Question about TBC priests

Hey!

I am in a pickle. I’ve always played alliance, and I will have to roll horde now with some friends. I am really leaning towards making a blood elf priest, since I love the looks and story about elves.

BUT - I also like to do content at a high level, I dont wanna miss out on too much in both arena and raids. And youtube videos have been informing me that the priest specific racials are very bad for blood elves.

Apparently devouring plague and shadowguard for undead and troll are huge abilities, if I should listen to these guides.

Can anyone with TBC or priest knowledge tell me, if I really miss out on that much, if I choose bloodelves?

My last priest was a male Belf priest on private server netherwing, I switched it over to a troll. Not because of the priest racial but because of the berserking racial and I liked how trolls cast more than Belves.

but in all honesty… if you come to the point where racials are really going to determine if you win or lose a match / bossfight… I’d say you belong to the top 0.1% of players. I’d say the only valuable racials are Dwarf fear ward (vanilla) and the dreanei party-wide mana return. rest are just niche things left and right .

Racials are never mandatory to do any content, BE racial is actually good in PVP if you follow up with a fear etc. It is always a good thing to have an aoe silence.

But for pve, if you want to min-max, then other races will have a slight advantage over you for sure. Undead is a better all-rounder race because it has advantages both in pve and pvp. Troll is also good obv. On alliance side, for shadow pve, night elf is great for starshards. dwarf is good in pvp.

Again these are all relative advantages but you can play BE without them, with a certain disadvantage. Up to you, but I wouldn’t.

If you’re going shadow in pve racials won’t be a difference since your damage is middle of the pack and mostly needed for mana regen.

Can’t comment on pvp but someone else above stated that racials in tbc won’t give you a huge advantage over other groups.

While consume magic is weaker then shadowguard and devouring plague if you go shadow, it might actually be stronger if you go holy or discipline. Regardless the real racials of beeing able to AoE silence is going to offset that by a lot.

Don’t fear the meta bandwagon, choose something that you enjoy, while the priest racial spells are nice, there not groundbreaking.
