Riddle me this! No drama just curious! Sincere questions:
Doing celestials on priest: Intellect staff drops from last boss, DK tank and a shadow priest need on it. I react puzzled by DK’s roll, and I roll need as well (for os, whatever, it’s good for my class). Am reassured by DK, says if classes who can actually use the item also need, the system will prioritize them.
I win the roll (proceed to receive all sorts of insults from other priest in barely legible whispers for winning the roll but okay, besides the point).
Fast forward to today: Celestials on druid. Leather agility shoulders drop. Warrior tank and warlock both roll need (?). I roll need with my druid. WARLOCK wins the roll!
Please illuminate, does it or does it not prioritize like the DK pointed out? The Warlock clearly cannot use a leather item (I know they wish they could, being so dark and kinky), yet they still won the roll. Was it because it was agility gear (my off spec) while I was resto spec?
Again, not intended as a complaint just curious.
You will prob have 1 out of 10 dungeons where everyone greeds what they can’t use or needs what they actually need, a lot of the time it’s people farming gold/crystals so they just need everything at the end and leave. It will be like this for the rest of MoP.

Yes I can see that. That doesn’t answer the question though.. Does the group loot system prioritize players who can use an item over players who can’t, if everyone needs? If yes, does it depend on your loot spec setting?
Think it’s only on certain items like tier, I lost a few rolls to plate geared people on my priest on off-pieces

Sounds like a probable explanation. “Offspec” might be equal to “regular need” in the system.
Honestly, they should just implement personal loot at this point. I’m beyond sick of having every single loot piece ninja’d in 9 out of 10 runs. And there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.
Yes it was because your loot specialization was set to int gear. That makes it see it as not main spec to everyone who was rolling so they all had equal priority.
From what I figure how it works gear drops have specs/classes assigned to them
example: those leather agi shoulders would be priod on people who can make use of leather spec (5% more main stats) and play an agi based spec. So if your loot spec would’ve been Feral/Guardian, you would have a higher priority than a Warrior/Warlock.
So it is like a +1 prio over STR/int users, some items are weird tho for int/spirit users but that wasn’t the case here.
Yes, it’s basically, if you can win that item with a bonus roll from the raid in your current loot spec, then you have prio on it in celestials.
As far as I know there is no such system.
I was researching an item today and reading 5.x comments about them, there were lots of complaints. Supposedly during MoP (2012) some classes couldn’t roll Need on certain items. Maybe the DK meant that.
Then again, it wasn’t particularly restrictive, the item I checked was a trinket with some secondary stat and a primary proc - due to the secondary stat, it was free for all, despite being agility proc.
(My current curiosity is that I noticed some of these providing primary stat now, meaning intellect on a priest - despite clearly stating agility. Given pace of leveling, low level gear reworks and absence of crafted trinkets, it makes sense.)
This just further proves that pugs are the worst:)
The sooner you find yourself a close group of, either friends or guildies (maybe both?), the happier you’ll be.
I refuse to either tank or heal pugs nowadays, so fed up with randoms needing on shlt they dont need.
personal loot system will 100% solve the issue.
In my experience, it’s the other way around. About 1 in 10 dungeons I meet greedy ninjas who roll need on everything. Most of the time people behave… Except one thing - nobody says “OS” anymore when they roll for OS, even if there is someone who needs it for MS. But I have learned to live with that and do the same now.
