Question regarding the battle.net app and authenticator

I’m looking to upgrade my phone in the near future and I am unsure about how I activate the authenticator part of the battle.net app on the new phone.

I have read the support article and I am not finding the clear answers I’m looking for in the article.

Do I need to remove the authenticator from my account and then attach a new one on the new phone or does it work like with the old authenticator app where you could use the serial number and restore code?

If the latter, won’t that mean the authenticator is on both phone which, to my understanding, Blizzard does not support?

There are essentially 2 options:

1: Use a restore code which will be in your current BNET authenticator in the settings.
2: (Easier way) Remove the authenticator from the old phone, then attach a new authenticator on your new phone.

Also as a sidenote, if you haven’t yet but by now should’ve: Check if SMS protect is active. If you’re migrating on a new phone but keep the same phone numbers a SMS protect code may be sent as well on both detaching and attaching.

Thank you very much for the reply.

I will be keeping my phone number and I already have SMS enabled for my account.

I have ended up with multiple authenticators on two different devices as I have used Samsung’s transfer data to move data and apps between them. Both work fine and get notifications if/when I need to authenticate the login. I haven’t tried to manually add third though maybe I should so my actual backup phone would have it, too.
